Yeah, unless they get ~100 folks at the Galleria, I don't see that one lasting long. There's power in numbers, but the Hoover PD don't mess around.
Only reason I see the Summit allowing it on that green space is it far enough away from the parking lots and shops that it wouldn't really impact shoppers that much.

I doubt that school has many walkers. It's a rather affluent area near a major highway, and any walkers they do have wouldn't be walking towards where the protest would be taking place. Plus I'm pretty sure the road it's on doesn't even have sidewalks.
Dude.... Both of my kids went there and my wife was PTA president during that time. If there is such a thing as an "exit" on 280, the elementary school is right beside the Summit exit. Tons of kids walk to the school because they walk by our store every day.
While the blocking of 280 wouldn't do much to directly impact the kids at Cahaha Heights Elementary, indirectly it's devastating. The roads running through Cahaba Heights are used as a bypass for Summit traffic. Cahaba Heights Rd, Overton Rd, Dolly Ridge Rd, and Pumphouse Rd have all been busy as shite this week for Christmas. Blocking 280 will make already busy roads even worse.
They have also advised the people at the AT&T operations center to go home at 1:00.

Yeah my office is actually on Cahaba Heights Rd, but I rarely drive Dolly Ridge so I never am around there when school lets out.
And I agree the shutting down of 280 would cause a massive traffic problem for Cahaba Heights.

One of the local places to eat/drink in Cahaba Heights asked us what we thought about them having a "Black Friday" sales event today. We advised them against it.

I can't imagine how bad it could get back behind the Summit. I've been back there during normal heavy traffic days and it is such a mess.
That is why I don't see the Birmingham PD or the Summit owners being very inviting towards the protestors. They don't want to agitate anything but they also don't want the Summit greenspace to become a place for future protests. In order to protest on that greenspace, the Summit would basically have to allow people to park in front of Saks and walk down the side of the road. Its not exactly pedestrian friendly around there. As for the Galleria, they can easily prohibit people who are carrying signs or wearing all black from entering the mall. Hell, they could just rope off the food court for a period of time starting at 4:30. Problem solved.
Honestly though, I don't see it becoming a big event at either place. It just doesn't look like there is much organization to this deal.

They are supposed to fix the intersection of Greenvalley and Crosshaven. Putting in a dedicated turn lane and turn signal for all directions of traffic. This will help immensely.

I've seen Cahaba Heights Rd coming from Colonnade/Blue Lake Dr backed up all way back to the 459 overpass before.

This and the weather will make it much ado about nothing.

I'm tempted to call PETA and tell them they're wearing fur.

Just drove by the Summit. Bham PD has two buses sitting in the parking lot already. No sign of protestors.

It's a smokescreen. They're going to rob the secret gold reserve downtown while the cops are all at the summit.
Be on the lookout for dump trucks.

Protests have been cancelled: LINK
They plan on rescheduling them in front of various Police Departments later on.

Pretty much what I thought. It didn't seem organized. I bet it was just one person just creating the page to stir shite up. When that Facebook page went down, you kind of knew it was going to be nothing.
Still kind of funny how they claim to have talked to officials in Bham & Hoover but neither police dept. is saying that happened. Goes to show you what kind of people are behind this.

I'll be damned.
Crowd is now blocking right turn lane going into the Summit.
