But we should fire him right?

I don't really see what he did this year that would constitute him recieving that award, a pretty average season with above average talent again.

There is no rationalizing with the mouth-breathing fans on here. You haven't figured that out yet?

let's take the "should we fire him" discussion out of the equation.

why the frick is he a finalist for this award? no matter your thoughts on his job security, this makes no sense.

More of a humanitarian award. We had a good, but not great season on the field. Our teams always have players on watch lists for academics/athletics. The community outreach from Richt coached teams is always outstanding.

Keeping the team together and focused during the Gurley gate helped his cause for sure

Now including Jacksonville

There are 12 finalists for the thing....about like the NBA playoffs...if you ain't in then you had a sure enough bad season.

There was nothing at all spectatculr or noteworthy about this season from a coaching standpoint.

I am always amazed how people describe 9-10 win seasons as average. I suspect some do not realize what average means.

However, I do agree with the sentiment. We criticize Richt for sticking with a QB because the kid waited his time, but some want to give an infinitely more important job for the same reason? I hope we give the HC job to the most qualified person available...whether it is Bobo or not.

Ok. Taking all three criteria as a whole...maybe. I'm not sure how we do in the classroom or in the community, but I suspect we do pretty well as a whole.

Spoiler Alert: He will start off near the top of the list, then, when everyone gets their hopes up, he will blow it against 3 inferior competitors and end up with the Lane Kiffen Head Coach Medal of Disgrace #CMRuKiddingMe? #BelkBowl? #ThereareStillBelks? #FinishtheDrill? #JustKidding

First...3-4 losses STILL is not average.
Secondly...I have seen it said exactly as I wrote it.

People on here routinely cll 10 win season average. It's absolutely crazy. We are a spoiled fan base. I am NOT saying that we should not wan a National Championship, so don't go there. We definitley should. But let's call things they way they are.

If you don't want Richt because he rarely wins more than 10 games and you don't think he can get us over the top.....fine. I can understand that. but let's not kid ourselves by saying he is average. I said it eiher in this thread or another...I read he was in the top 5 Nationally in win percentage for active coaches. I don't know if that is true, but it is probably close. I woudl say at LEAST top 10....and that is NOT average.

ETA:

I just looked it up. He is 12th. However, 4 coaches have less than 5 years. take them out of the equation and he would be 8th.

A four loss season is not a good season. It's not terrible, but it's not good. What would you call that? I call it average or mediocre. It can also be called an okay season if that term is better for you.

People know very well what average means - they often aren't using the same "average," however. Some will use the mean, some will use the median, and some will use the mode.

Depends on whether or not community service hours count towards "excellence" in the community. :)
