That is what we heard during Gottfried's last season. With Grant, Saban helped lure him here so maybe he feels that he needs to stay out of it this time.

On a side note...and this is really trivial...once basketball gets back on track, it'd be nice to see Saban sitting courtside more regularly. He doesn't need to be Bruce Pearl and cover himself in body paint but it'd be nice to see him leading the charge of showing support for the basketball program. I know that isn't his thing but still....

Fans have shown more support for this basketball program than it deserved.

Bama bball fans are terrible, simple as that. Win and they show up, lose and they stay home and make excuses as to why the players don't deserve their support.

I hate watching games at Coleman on TV. I know it has been mentioned on here before, but our fans seem to be the least educated basketball fans in the country. They boo every call, right or wrong.

We need a new arena, but I'm not sure it would change the quality of our fans.

Solution seems simple to me.

Nearly every sports team deals with this except for maybe a few exceptions.

I don't blame any fan who decided to stay at home this season.

For real though, heck, our women's vollyeball team put a better product on the floor, had more success and I honestly had a lot more fun going to those things than basketball this year. The students loved it, the arena would be loud and we'd usually win. Same goes even double for Softball and Gymnastics.... do you think they would be breaking attendance records if the teams sucked? Just win.

Personally that's all I want out of basketball, a team that is good enough protect home against anyone, put on a good high flying show and make a dent in the post season. Heck, what Grant had in 2010 and 2011 would have been the perfect level to stay at to keep the fanbase content. A quality product with potential to go far if they got hot at the right time.

Yep. A lot of packed or near packed home games in '11 and '12. Those weren't great teams either but they were in contention for NCAAT bids so it made the games more fun. I don't think our fans are particularly great or horrible. Just need something to make the games interesting like most fans.

I think we do fare better than almost anyone in the SEC in bench strength but you could take a few of those good depth players off our squad and simply add a Portis or Mickey and I think we're easily in the tourney.

Was unaware that Grant was prohibited from recruiting Portis or Mickey...

Well, that is why the sentence after the one you quoted is:

However, it's almost beating a dead horse to keep saying that even a fringe all-SEC difference maker in the paint has been the huge Grant shortcoming.

Agree. That's all anyone wants. I don't see any fan demanding Final Fours or compete with UK on a yearly basis for SEC Dominance. We just want the basketball team to be relevant and for there to be a purpose to each season.

You sound like a blast to sit next to at a game. Will you watch the next game with me so that I can improve my quality level?

Speaking of watching, why didn't SEC network have this game?

It's kind of odd that hey had almost every non-ESPN one the entire the season until the past couple of weeks to have softball instead of some SEC match-ups with bubble implications.
