If he doesn't get fired then maybe we should start a fire Bill Battle thread. I don't think he has the balls to fire him this year.

Maybe we'll win 10 of the next 13 but I doubt it not just because we aren't great, but our lack of fundamentals on the glass will keep us from winning close games. It sucks because we've been so close in 3 different games that have all ended in losses. We could be a top 20 team with confidence and the ability to rebound. That's Grantsketball.

It's too much of the same story every year. It would have been good for this relationship to have ended last year. Both our program and Grant need new days.

I agree. A split would be mutually beneficial for both parties at this part. If we lose on Saturday, Grant should resign.

I'm kind of scared we go after Steve Prohm of Murray State if Grant's canned. Another young guy with little head coaching experience and his claim to fame is taking over a team Billy Kennedy built up. I'm not saying he'd be terrible, but I hope we can do better and throw money at a somewhat established coach.

My thoughts about Grant are well documented in this thread.

That said, unless we go out and get someone who will be a slam dunk, then we might as well keep Grant. Getting a good coach is such a crapshoot that we are probably wasting our time if we go after someone who isn't a proven commodity.

Tider I don't mean to be rude but that is just the wrong way of thinking in my opinion. Yes, the next guy could be worse. But this guy sucks. If we could do better, we need to try and do so.

I agree. I'd rather take a chance and miss again than continue to wallow around in the same crap.

I hear you, but I'm at the point where I think our program is at a crossroads. Since Wimp left, we've been floundering as a middle of the pack program. A few highlights but overall just a bunch of "meh." I think we have more potential and in my opinion there needs to be a culture change at UA about basketball. Either we commit ourselves to be champions with every decision or we just conitinue to settle for being who we are. That means addressing the facilities, attendance, scheduling, etc. so that we maximize the product. I don't think that's currently happening in Tuscaloosa. If we aren't going to do that and maintain the mentality that we don't want basketball to get in the way of football, then we should just keep Grant.

And by "slam dunk" I mean a proven coach. Not the flash in the pan mid-major coach who only has a track record of 1 or 2 years.

Of course a loss on Saturday and Grant's gone IMO because the team will tank.

I agree. We are doing things fundamentally wrong in basketball. its just so sad that the administration either doesn't care or doesn't know how crappy we have really been since Wimp. If we don't fire Coach Grant this year, then I am one for Bill Battle to go as well. If he doesn't have the power (or doesn't see the problem) to fire Grant, then we need to hire a new athletic director. That may be the answer anyways. A younger AD that wants to change things up a bit and get some things going for the basketball program. More than anything, I want to see a coach that can COACH basketball. I can't remember the last time I saw a group of freshmen come in to the Capstone and actually grow and learn the game together. We are lucky if one guy in a class improves from year to year. T Relly improved each off-season and it showed. But so many other guys just are basically the same dude from when they arrived. I swear on my life my JV coach at effing Bob Jones High School knew more about the X and O nature of the game.
