I don't think we had a timeout remaining. Plus our best player had the ball in his hands and is usually pretty good at creating his own shot.
I had a bigger problem with how poorly we executed against their full court press. It was like we'd never seen one.

Sadly, you're right.
I know the youngsters don't remember it, but there was a time when making the tourney was assumed and the goal was to get past the sweet 16.

Yes we did. That's how we managed to get a shot off at all.
When Randolph drove the lane and got stripped, he dove to the floor, got the ball, and called Bama's last time out before the clock ran out and/or Wichita could tie him up (they had the possession arrow).
Edited to add: You're right about the press. Bama led by 11 with 5 1/2 minutes left. In the next 5 minutes of play, they had multiple turnovers and only managed to take 2 shots from the floor.
If they'd just averaged talking one shot a minute, they probably make one along the way and win the game.

At any rate, if Levi hits the shot and we win, everyone lauds Grant for not calling a timeout. It's one of those coaching decisions that is magnified by the situation, and sometimes it pays off and sometimes it doesn't. Or, had he called a timeout but then we turn it over, everyone would be screaming that he called a timeout instead of letting our best player get a shot off. I didn't have a problem with it.
Our execution against the press is what I had a problem with. It was abysmal.

I'm fine with not calling a timeout. Levi is good off the dribble and with our skillsets we are just as good at a dribble kick than we are at anything else. A timeout would have given Wichita a chance to set up, we would have had to throw the ball in and started our own tempo, etc.

I didn't care either way about the timeout.
To be honest, at the time I didn't know if we had one left or not. I was too busy melting over what had happened during the 5 minutes prior to the last possession.

I remember them showing a graphic at some point that showed we didn't have a timeout left, but I guess maybe that was a full timeout and we had a 20 second one left or something.

I can see your point but considering the way Bama had been playing the last five or six minutes of the game, I thought it would have been a good idea to try to draw up a pick play to get an open shot. If nothing else, a timeout would have given the team a chance to collect itself after they had just blown an eleven point lead in five minutes.

Yea, but we had already had a few timeouts/possession stoppages during that run and they did us no good.
We ended up getting Levi in the lane with a chance at a close shot, he got hit (and should have gone to the line) and they didn't call it. Really about as good a possession as we could hope for, honestly.

On that note, let's not forget that 90% FT shooting Levi put up two awful free throws (got a really lucky bounce to make one) just prior to that last trip. If he makes them both, Wichita has to hit a 3 to win in regulation.
It all gets back to the fact that Grant's teams just can't finish. It has been that way since day 1 with him. If it was going to change, it would have happened by now.
