Alabama fans, it seems that if there is a weak part of your team, it is the OL. Ohio St. today placed two of their DL on the AP All-America team with Bosa on the 1st team and Bennett on the 3rd team.

Is this THE key matchup of the game or do you think Blake Sims mobility will negate the advantage Ohio St. seemingly has in the trenches while Bama is on O?

I don't think their line is any better than Mississippi States.

It won't matter because Blake Sims has barely been sacked all year by virtue of his escapability.

Not worried.

State, Old Piss, and Mizzou all had very good DLs. The only two that slowed us down were State the Old Piss. They settled into a containment scheme with their DEs and let their LBs drop into coverage to stop the short passing game. If OSU pins their ears back like Mizzou did, they'll get boat raced.

Edit: Arkansas played contain with extra coverage as well and it killed our short passing game. LSU held us well too, but I put a lot of that on Blake and Kiffin. That was an awful offensive game plan.

Joey Bosa is better than anyone on State's roster.

Still, Bama will win

And they had the best rushing defense and allowed the fewest rushing TDs ever (according to all the pre game media hype).

Interesting question. I wasn't sure what to think, so I did some research.

On the surface, OSU has the #33 rush defense. Alabama played 5 opponents better...Florida (12), Arkansas(22), MSU (25), Ole MIss (29), and Missouri (30).

Those numbers don't necessarily mean anything, because it says nothing about the opponents. So I looked closer.

OSU's opponents, on the average, ranked 64th in rushing offense. From Navy at #1 to Kent State at #122. Navy (1) and Indiana (9) actually gained more yards against OSU than they averaged for the year. Wisconsin (3) didn't, because Wisconsin ended up throwing the ball twice as much as normal because of getting way behind early.

Florida's opponents averaged #67. From UGA at #12 to Vandy at #112. Florida, unlike OSU, actually held the better rushing teams (except Alabama) under their averages.

Arkansas actually played far better rushing teams...average rank 40. And Arkansas completely held the better teams way below their averages.

After seeing all those numbers, I'm not one bit worried. When OSU played teams that run the ball well, those teams tended to do OK running the ball.

Missouri had a higher ranked rush defense...30th...against better rushing teams...average rank 56th...and gave up 74 yards more than their average against Alabama.

I'm not worried.

OSU struggled with home run type plays in the running game for a lot of the year. Coleman from indiana and Cobb from Minny both had huge runs against the D. OSU would do a good job for 5 or 6 runs in a row then boom, 80 yard td.

OSU fans, and the team I'm sure, are hopeful what they were able to do against Gordon in the first half of the B1G is how they are going to play from now on. I'm cautiously optimistic, but after seeing multiple backs have good games, I'm not overly confident

We're not really a rush-first offense anyway, so I don't think those stats matter all that much. We use the pass to set up the run.

So I'd rather see how the DL does in pass rush, which is the strength of this OL. They are much better pass blockers than run blockers.

Beast. Concerns me. Likely concerns Bama offensive staff and, thus, they'll have a plan.

It's really too bad our best rush end was doing Molly all offseason.

I still think OSU can generate a pass rush on Sims if he stays in the pocket. Kiffin has done a great job getting him rolling out enough to keep D's honest

Better take a look at what Defense was ranked best in SEC this year! It was LSU
not OM, Mis State or Ark. If we only had a QB or a coach would use the best one we have. It Took half the year for the young guys to mature. The Our D is what made your Offense struggle not your QB or OC.

Not nearly as bad as auburn will against Wisconsin. They'll wipe the shite off their asses with your defense.
