Who are these teams and what are their chances of making it in the near future? (Note: this only counts appearances while a part of the SEC)

1. South Carolina -- Frank Martin is a solid coach, however, hasn't demonstrated the ability to recruit to the level needed for a Final Four team. Also, has a bunch of strong ACC programs in its backyard to recruit against.

2. Tennessee - Along with Vandy, UT not making the FF surprises me more than any other team. Lots of good years in the 1970s with the Ernie and Bernie show. Pearl had some strong teams but too weak on the Xs and Os to make it.

3. Vandy -- Had enough good teams to make it but ran into bad breaks. Lost to Georgetown a few years back in the Regional when the G-Town player walked in the final seconds but Vandy was called for a foul. Lots of dead-eye shooters in the 1990s.

4. Auburn -- A bleak history with a couple of bright spots. Just missed the FF in the late 1980s against Louisville with Check Person, Frank ford, etc. Also was a #1 seed with Chris Porter. Bruce Pearl is an awesome recruiter and will improve the program but too weak on Xs and Os to make the Final Four.

5. Bama -- More success than Auburn with several trips to the Sweet Sixteen. Mark Gottfried got to the ELite Eight but then got fried by UCONN. Anthony Grant a good Xs and Os coach but can't recruit enough talent at Bama to make it

6. Texas A&M -- Solid program is a rich recruiting area. Recently activated a 5* recruit (which most SEC teams can't boast). I think they have the best opportunity of seeing the Final Four soon compared with the rest of this group.

7. Mizzou -- Program is currently a dumpster fire. Enough said...

8. Ole Miss -- Totally forgot about them, lol

Semi-Irrelevant. UNC and Duke recruit whoever they want from wherever they want. Rarely are SC and UNC competing for the same guys. At least not yet. We've got some good talent coming in. A 4-star or two, whatever hell that's worth, but I don't think UNC and Duke care much for those as many of the big timers they can get.

Besides, teams have proven over the years you don't need elite talent to get to the final four (Butler is one example)

Also, we've been high seeded before (as high as #2), so it's not like it's just not possible for us to have that level of play. Our problem is choking tourny time.

My favorite LSU Final Four team beat somebody in Atlanta in The Final Eight to get there. I was at the game. I wish I could remember the name of the team. I know they had Kenny "Sky" Walker. Roger Harden, were coached by Eddie Sutton and finished 32-4, but the school name escapes me....

You have Anthony Grant flipped, but it doesn't matter.

Yep, that was 1986. Remember the game well. Don Redden to Chris Blanton open because of a back screen in the final five seconds for the win. We had already beaten you twice in the regular season and then again in the SEC tournament. It was Eddie Sutton's first season as Kentucky coach. His missteps in this game made it only a matter of time until the fan base turned on him and forced him out.

And all three of those losses had been really close last-second-type tough losses for LSU. That was a National Championship-worthy UK team and very gracious in defeat. I can still see Walker walking off the court like there had been a death.

LSU had run an absolute gauntlet to get there with a win over a good Purdue team and then a REALLY good Memphis State team and an AWESOME Georgia Tech team that had Mark Price and John Salley among others. And then beating UK was the icing on the cake.

And then Pervis Ellison made us his bitch.

But I thought Missouri was a traditional power? That's what their fans have been saying.

Missouri has made the most elite 8's without ever reaching the final four.
