Butch wanted him to consider moving to OT, Jackson wants to stay at DE.

Probably headed to LSU.

interesting.

Question for Vols. Have any of you seen him play? What is his stronger position (O or D)?

How good of a player is he?

He plays both for Tennessee HS powerhouse Maryville. He's a better DE right now but many believe his potential is much higher at OT but Jackson is very much against that move.

He's got a huge frame and he's bigger than the 245 lbs he's listed as on 247. I could easily see him weighing 300 lbs in a couple of years and maintaining his athleticism.

It's rumored that Butch really pissed him off by mentioning the move to OT and that's when he started looking around. LSU and Stanford are the top two contenders and they're apparently selling him on staying at DE.

appreciate it.

I remember he played at Maryville and someone once said he preferred D.

Do yall have a few other DE's committed right now?

Yeah, our DL class is pretty loaded right now and we've still got Kyle Phillips and D'Andre Walker on the board. Still would've liked to have kept Jackson. He's gonna be a heck of a player and he comes from arguably the best HS program in Tennessee.

We're feeling pretty good about Phillips too. Not a lock by any means, but he seems to be favoring LSU, though I'm not 100% sure. You know anything about his recruitment. Is it safe to say OM is out of it since Amadi decommitted?

Both fanbases are confident right now, I think distance wins out in the end. But who really knows?

Yeah, OM is out for Amadi and they're a package deal so I'm assuming they're out for KP as well. I know LSU had an in home with Amadi yesterday morning and Butch and Thigpen went by last night before the dead period started.

Phillips visit to TN this weekend from his mom supposedly went as well as it could.

I don't know that I've ever seen a recruitment as 50/50 right now as his.

I think he loves LSU as a team and place, but he really likes our coaching staff and the idea of being close to home.

Mom will probably be the deciding factor and no one knows what she is thinking yet.

Jackson has elite potential at LT with his athleticism. Chavis is recruiting him hard (really hard by Chavis's recruiting habits ) to play DL though. I think he can be a solid DE against the run or could easily slide inside. I don't think he'll be the kind of kid in the backfield all the time but could be a steady guy to have on the DL.

Kid really wants to play DL and looks like LSU will win out.. (that's the word around Maryville where I work/live)

I think Phillips is a VOL though.

Just my amateur opinion from seeing him on TV a couple of times...I was never really that impressed with him at DE. Not to say he wasn't good, but I didn't see an SEC DE, I really think with his big body and good feet, that tackle might be best for him.

Either way, he will be one that won't contribute until his Jr. year or so. But coming from Murrville, he will be disciplined and well coached.

If the kid thinks he has a better chance to play DE at LSU, that should tell you what we have and are bringing in.

He is an OT and we've told him that is what he would be playing here. He won't play DE at LSU; they'll promise him his shot and then move him to OT. This situation happens all the time.

It makes sense, really. A lot, I know there are exceptions, of highly recruited highschool OL aren't cut out to be tackles in college. You need athletes who have the frame to put on weight. Give me a TE or a DE with a year or two to learn the position.

Yep. Perfect example is Jashon Robertson. Butch puts him on the Oline and now he's a freshman All American

He'll play DE early on, but a switch is possible. Our staff has talked about it with him IIRC.

No.

Fans brought that up.

Kyle has always been told he will play defensive end.
