I will never forget that day.. Leaving work early only to be able to find myself no route to get home. Phone dead with no way of getting a hold of my wife to see if she was ok,worst day of my life, But the worst is people losing their life's and not having the opportunity that I have. I'm forever grateful at least have the chance to hug my loved ones every day. RIP

People don't understand unless you been through this. I'm a trained weather spotter and have seen tornadoes and destruction.. But, never have I ever been scared for my life or others like that day.

The lightning is one of the other things I will never forget. It was so intense.

Puts football in the bottom of our minds.

Please share stories.

Same thing happened to me, except I had to stay a little late to set something up for the following day in the event we were working. Left work in Tarrant 15 minutes after everyone else. Had I left on time I would have been right in the tornados path, my exit off the interstate is the same one the tornado took. My username is derived from that day

I parked at the yogurt mountain on 15th and McFarland. Looked down 15th and it looked like bombs had been dropped. Ran to my buddies house in Forrest Lake and his roof had been caved in by a cedar tree and no one was there. Freaking out at this point. Walk back toward yomo and spot buddies girlfriend's best friend, so we go back and search for them. Eventually found them and they were ok, but it was a miserable feeling not knowing.

I've shared this a few times here.

My wife and I sat in front of the TV watching James Spann when the footage of the tornado crossing Kauloosa Ave was shown. JS was telling everyone that they should have been in their safe place 5 min ago. My wife was begging me to get to our "safe place". Reluctantly I relented and went to the center of our apt. As soon as I closed the doors, the rumbling started. The lights flickered and then went out. The rumbling got louder and louder until it was deafening. I grabbed my wife and my dog and held on as tight as I could. I knew at that moment that this was it. We may not make it. Everything in my life came back to me very vividly. I grasped tighter and thought, "If today is our time, I want us to be together." The pressure dropped and my ears popped and it was utter chaos for about 10 sec that seemed like minutes. Then, the rumbling got softer and the pressure equalized. When I walked outside it was total devastation. Luckily our complex wasn't damaged to badly.

I live at the junction of Hargrove rd and Hackberry lane right next to Forest Lake.

It's the only time in my life that I thought I was gonna die.

Sorry for the choppy writing, I still get really emotional when I rehash those moments.

I worked with Bo on the Bo Bikes Bama ride. I got to see all the places that were destroyed that day. Such a sobering experience. I cried so many times during that week. I hugged the necks of total strangers that had lost everything. Hackleburg and Cordova were really bad.

FTR Bo is a true hero. He was so good to these people. There were so many instances of his generosity that were never caught on film.

I lived in Forest Lake on the Hargrove side. My roommates and I were outside seeing if we could spot it. By the time we did we had just enough time to get in the house, get out dogs and get to our "safe place".

I've been robbed at gunpoint twice, but the scariest thing I've ever experienced was the 1-2 minutes from the time we realized that thing was headed straight for us and there wasn't a damn thing we could do about it until the house finally stopped shaking.

My buddy and I went outside as soon as it passed. We had a former army medic living just a few houses down. He started yelling for us to get an ambulance, someone had a skull fracture. There was no way an ambulance could get into the neighborhood due to so many trees covering the roads. We were helping put the injured in the back of pickup trucks so they could get to the hospital. We carried a 95 year old lady that had her house completely destroyed in a chair to one of the trucks. They found her about 50 yards from her house with a broken arm and leg but she survived.

The worst part was not being able to get a phone call out to my parents for about 2 hours. I figured they thought I was dead. Luckily, they had already lost power in Huntsville and had no idea what happened.

Alabama has had some devastating weather over the last 20 years. Tornado Alley that runs through Tuscaloosa to Pleasant Grove is unreal.

The tornado crossed McFarland just beyond the 15th st/McFarland blvd intersection. It completely flattened a neighborhood(Cedar Crest) that was on the corner. Probably 60-70 houses leveled.

The tornado crossed over Mcfarland near the 15th street intersection and hit hobby lobby, so your correct the stuff you saw missing was the path.

I live in Florida, so I wasn't in any danger. My family lives all throughout Alabama so that was obviously concerning, but my parents kept me updated and we were relatively confident my family would be ok.

What really shook me was the news of Carson Tinker's girlfriend. This will sound silly, and possibly ignorant seeing as I've never been married, but the thought of losing a girlfriend scared the absolute shite out of me. Even moreso than a family member or wife.

I couldn't love my parents any more than I do. And will undoubtedly love my future wife. But something about Tinker never having the chance to see his relationship reach it's full potential was crushing. I'd be royally fricked up if one of my parents passed away, but at least I've spent 24 great years with them. We've been through everything imaginable and know exactly what our family is about.

At a young age, a SO isn't just some girl you like. There are so many what ifs and ideas and dreams of how amazing your future could be with that person. You could get married and have kids and love life, you could break up in 6 months, but that doesn't change the visions you have of your future with that person being magical and the potential time of your life. The idea of Carson never being able to live out that potential was heartbreaking to me. Like when a young person dies without having a chance to experience their dreams. He'll never know what could have been.

frick.

I think they were in Forest Lake. In the vid I just posted, FL starts at about the 2min mark.

At about 2:50 is McFarland Blvd.

ETA At the 2min mark, the chopper is right over my apt.

Agreed! I have much respect for Bo Jackson!!! You could tell, even without what you saw firsthand, from clips of his biking tour his sincerity in helping...God bless him!
