I don't know the interworking of Stec's aspirations or life goals, or what he thinks he needs to feel satisfied with his career... but this has the same feel as the Josey decision last year. Everyone knew it was a mistake. Compiling the coaches comments, feeling between the lines it seems like this is a head scratcher for them, as it is us.

A few things tell me he's one of these guys on the cusp of legitimate old age who can't accept it.

Think he'll one day regret this. Oh well.

Best of luck.

Huge difference. Stec has made his money. He's nearing the end of his career. Guy is 57. One thing he's always wanted to be able to say he did was be the HC of a team. He's now financially set and in a position to be able to do it. So he did. Good for him. It's not a career move beyond simply doing something he's always wanted to do.

Really don't know how that is a mistake.

nah, it isn't. Stec is his own man, doing what he needs to do, like Roy in Tin Cup,, "from the heart, how can that be a mistake?" ... some people haven't learned to view the world outside of their own shoes.

Really it's a good fit for him. I don't know if the pressure will be as great even with it being a head coaching position vs. the DC job in the SEC. You're tested every week. Under the microscope every week. Ridiculed every week. This HC job at Mo. State has to be a breath of fresh air for him. For once, he is in total control.

I'm happy for the guy. He's worked for it and figured he wasn't heading for a HC job in the big class so he settled for this.

Maybe he's doing it from the ego, which is far from the heart.

It's what he wants to do, so no matter what that alone makes it the right choice for him.

Just feel that those around him don't quite understand it or feel its the wisest choice.

I hope the guy has all the success in the world..

Going from 650,000 to 250,000 you are still living pretty damn good... especially in Springfield...

It is an odd move. Maybe it wasn't Steckel's choice? I doubt we'll ever know all the details.

Who knows. Maybe his family wanted him to do it. It doesn't seem to be the "football" move so to speak.

his brother(a football coach) is on record saying Stec was "a natural head coach" or something to the effect, but leaving for springfield to coach state?

Terrorists really make more sense.

thats the spirit!!!

the manchurian coach...

Stec was secretly captured on a trip behind enemy lines (to lowrents) and is now on a course to resurrect the beaker football program from high school status!

Dammit, we finally put it together, see what great minds can do (when we all hit the gutter running)...
