A Chicago police officer has been disciplined after he admitted playing a song some consider racially offensive during a protest against police violence last weekend, the department announced in a statement Thursday.
The action was taken after a video surfaced apparently showing a Chicago police car blasting the song “Sweet Home Alabama” by the band Lynyrd Skynyrd during the Saturday protest.
In the statement, the officer said he was playing the music as a "fan of the University of Alabama," which was playing the University of Missouri for the SEC championship and a shot at the NCAA playoffs.
What a shitty city.

So apparently Sweet Home Alabama is racist now? Can we get a list of what ISNT racist now?
That said, why was this dumbass playing it during a protest? I hate our fanbase sometimes.

Yeah,, racist things happened in Alabama 50 years ago and "Sweet Home Alabama" has Alabama right in the title and chorus so clearly it's racist

He was playing it because we were playing for the SEC title game. It's a completely inoffensive song and there should be no reason to think anyone would be offended.

It could have been about Neil Young's song about about Alabama though.

It says "In Birmingham they love the governor." I don't recall any lines where they say they specifically love the governor.
I find it hard to believe many people put that much thought into those lyrics these days.

If they consider that a racist song, I know a Johnny Rebel song (or 4) that would cause some riots
