Can a HUNH offense coexist with a great defense?

Saw this quote in another of the myriad Muschamp threads this morning:

quote:

That's a myth. There are other hurry up offenses that put out top defenses this year.

Hmmm...defensive rankings for teams that I'm pretty sure run a form of HUNH:

Oregon #80
Baylor #40
Oklahoma #53
AU #59
TCU #33
tOSU #15
Ole Miss #13
Arizona #102
WVU #58

Seems that the more dedicated a team is to HUNH, the more the defense struggles.

...and yes, Bama at #11. But we do everything well.

I think Alabama's defense suffered at the hands of a faster pace offense this season. But yes, you can still play solid defense with the HUNH. I wouldn't used the Big XII's shitty programs as evidence.

The counter to that arguement is that a slower paced offense can make some defenses look better than they actually are.

They ran a bad HUNH, apparently - #59 in total offense.

I wish you people would at least include some data with your dumb arse suppositions. by your theory if there is a direct correlation between HUNH & poor D you would see it in the TOP stats. for your theory to be correct TOP should be directly proportional to defensive performance. ready, go!

Dumb suggestion by him since he does. The fact they were bad on offense makes it even more impressive they were #1

Any offense that is staying on the field for sustained drives is doing its job. If a hunh goes 3 and out quick it hurts just as much as a non-tempo team.

Yes. You can't minimize what this means to the Auburn football program. A tough Auburn team just got a lot tougher. Boom is the most intense defensive coach in college football.

I didn't watch many Clemson games this year but I'm going to assume they didn't run as much HUNH as they have in the past because they were 37th in TOP while being #62 in total offense and #60 in scoring offense. By comparison, Arkansas was #61 in total offense and we're all aware of the speed with which we go.

Obviously they didn't slow it down as much as us but they definitely weren't going HUNH anywhere near as often this year as last. Last year when their offense was clicking, they were #112 in TOP while being #9 in total offense.
