TCU has held it since beating WVU earlier this season. OM is 0-4 historically in belt games.

LINK

You can check out the history of the belt on this site. Pretty interesting. It would look nice on Ross Bjork's shoulder for future Twitter threats.

Don't jinx us, we'll have to send it to a West African village to be used for blankets.

Personally, I think the Peach Bowl Champs Trophy will be nicer...

I'm glad for the name change; although I refused to call it that other name, but still eat their chicken.

I'd never even heard of the thing until they mentioned it on the radio on my way home from work. They supposedly created the belt after Nebraska beat the shite out of Alabama in 1972(?) and were at that time considered the greatest team of all time.

Didn't look to see who USM had won it from

After checking their website, it looks like they went all the way back to the first cfb game between Princeton and Rutgers. The lineage is the same however.

What?

From the site:
quote:

The decision was finally made to give the first Belt to the best college football team within our lifetime. Most of us were born in the early 1960’s so there was really only one choice -- the 1971 Nebraska Cornhuskers. Update

No matter which way you look at it, the lineages converge to make a unified belt holder. It looks like the 1942 Georgia Bulldogs were the first to unify the two lineages.
quote:

After receiving some feedback from our readers, we have checked the championship lineage if we had started The Belt with the 1936 Minnesota Golden Gophers as well as the first documented game between Princeton & Rutgers. The lineage confirmed what we expected in that the current champion is still the same. The Princeton/Rutgers lineage flowed directly to the 1971 Nebraska Cornhuskers as the Alabama Crimson Tide brought The Belt to the 1971 Orange Bowl. If we had started with the 1936 Minnesota Golden Gophers, the 2 lines converged on October 31, 1942. When Alabama traveled to Atlanta, Georgia to meet the Georgia Bulldogs, the Crimson Tide were the champions of the Princeton/Rutgers lineage while the Bulldogs held the Minnesota Belt. With Georgia's 21-10 victory, they became the unified, undisputed champion.

when Brigham Young was named National Champions after they had defeated a Michigan team that finished 6-6, we decided to create our own championship. Our logic was simple; we watch as much college football as anyone else so why can’t we name a champion?

They invented the Playoff Committee idea 30 years before the playoff committee was created. Genius.

Can't. Slightly drunk combined with my OM education causes my head to hurt when I read.
