I was bored so I decided to do a little research on our good friends Mr. Petrino and Mr. Grantham. The one thing that really stood out to me was how well they have performed on defense. I will admit that I have only watched one Louisville game this season and it was their shootout vs FSU, but overall they have had a damn good season.

QB
Will Gardner, is out for the season. The backup QB situation is a little sticky and Petrino has yet to say who will start in the bowl game. They have two Freshmen Bonnafon and Bolin. Bonnafon had been Gardner's backup all season, but was injured in the second quarter of the Kentucky game. Bolin came in and had a great game throwing for 381 yards, 3 TDs, and completed 67.7% of his passes. Petrino is saying that Bonnafon should be ready to go for the bowl game, but still has refused to name a starter.

RB
Brandon Radcliff is listed as the starter and has had a decent season but nothing special as he has only been able to top 100 yards three times. His backup is former Auburn parolee Michael Dyer. As yall may remember Dyer was a highly touted recruit who somehow managed to get booted from the team after their championship season. He had two monster games vs FSU and NC State when Radcliff was out with an injury, but other than those two games he has had a fairly quiet season in a backup role.

WR
They have one of the best in the country with DeVante Parker. The guy missed the first seven games of the season but has been unstoppable since his return. Over the past five games the dude has 735 receiving yards and 5 TDs. James Quick is another name to watch for at the WR position. He is the second leading WR on the team and one of their big play guys. Last but not least Eli Rogers, who their version of Michael Bennett, 4 year starter, possession receiver type.

Defense
They are ranked #6 in total defense, #2 against the run, and # 31 against the pass, #18 in points against. As far as players go they have two ACC first teamers LB Lorenzo Mauldin and S Gerod Holliman. Holliman is a finalist for the Jim Thorpe award and has tied the NCAA record for interceptions in a season with 14 which is insane because that record was set in the 1960's.

Special Teams
The Cardinals have decent special teams nothing special. John Wallace is an adequate kicker at 78.9% for the year with a long of 51, and at Punter the Cardinals have Ryan Johnson who is averaging 40.5 yard per punt.

Common Opponents

Clemson
UGA 45 Clemson 21
Clemson 23 Louiville 17

Kentucky
UGA 63 Kentucky 31
Louisville 44 Kentucky 40

Good info. Looks like Grantham has done a good job with this D (some of that likely is due to much weaker competition but still) and it should be a good test for us. I am interested to see how our O-line handles their D-line which I know nothing about. Should be a fun one.

How the hell does anyone get 14 picks in a year. I watched their game against FSU and I think he had two, but both were deflections and he was in the right spot at the right time.

Luck has a ton to do with it. Key matchup for the game is going to be how our OLine performs against their DLine. If we can run the ball effectively, it will be a blowout. I think our defense is going to play very well against them.

Anyone think Ramsey gets serious PT in this one?

The 'intangibles' factor weighs heavily in favor of our defense. Those kids are going to want to play lights out in front of their former coach.

Didn't they play fewer games in the '60s? So, to truly equal that stat in amazing then it should be the same per game ratio, eh?

The previous record holder had 14 interceptions in 10 games (1.4/g). Grantham's guy has 14 in 12 games (1.17/g) - although he recorded no stats in Week 2, so he may have not played 1 game.

It's all semantics either way, because that's one hell of a stat, and a guy doesn't get that many INT's on luck alone.

Luck is when something happens that's out of the ordinary. 14 isn't luck. He puts himself in the right spot a lot.

Agreed, I am sure being at the right place at the right time has contributed some, but still just being in the right place doesn't guarantee that you will finish the play that comes with being a good football player.

I was looking more into this dude and I saw an interesting article written about him over on NFL.com that says tackling is a major weakness in his game.

It will work against us too. Grantham is going to want to make a point againt us and last time he made a point it was a blowout against Vandy. I know, it was Vandy but it left enough of an impression on their dickfaced coach that he said Georgia was the best team in the land that season. He also knows Bobo and our offense very well. He's a good coach that can do a lot with the right talent.

I hope Bobo watches how Alabama absolutely ripped our front 7 a new arse in 2012. Chubb and Michel may not be better than Lacy and Yeldon were that year but they're close and our offensive line is solid.

Not me.

I'd be surprised if he gets any.

Same here.

I understand why some would like to see Ramsey in this game, but the fact of the matter is that the coaches are going to continue to play Hutson because he gives the team the best chance to win the game. The coaching staff will use spring practice and the remainder of the off season to evaluate the QB position going forward, not the bowl game.

The only way Ramsey will see significant PT is if there is a blowout, which I highly doubt will happen.

Both teams will be trying to get to 10 wins on the year as well.....

10-3 looks much better on a resume than 9-4, and I think it pays a bonus on a lot of coaches contracts..... So that's a big deal.

3rd string QB or not, this is going to be a good one.

Results against common opponents fwiw:

Georgia beat Clemson 45-21, Louisville lost to Clemson 23-17.

Georgia beat Kentucky 63-31, Louisville beat them 44-40....in a game that went to down to the wire.

Only 16 "teams" outta 128 in FBS had more Int's than Holliman did by himself...

If Georgia wins, they could end up ranked in Top 10 for the year.........

Will the play-off Czars gather one more time after the bowls to do final season rankings, or are they done?........and people will just go by the Coaches and AP?

I wonder how many people around here will still consider a top 10 finish an utter failure and bed shitting by Richt

Exactly!

There is simple way too much at stake for the coaching staff to be looking forward to next year.

ETA: I added the common opponents to the original post. I was going to do it earlier but was running short on time
