BENTONVILLE (KFSM)- A former Razorback football player, recently acquitted of second-degree murder, was arrested in Bentonville Tuesday (Dec. 9), according to the Bentonville Police Department.

Joshua Melton, 34, of Fayetteville was arrested at Lincoln Junior High School on suspicion of harassment, carrying a weapon and loitering at about 12:40 p.m., a news release from the police department stated.

The arrest followed information that Melton was making threatening statements to another person about an employee of the Bentonville School District, according to the release. A School Resource Officer found Melton in a vehicle in the school parking lot with no justification for his presence and he was believed to be placing the victim under surveillance, the release stated. He also had a large hunting knife with him, according to the release.

According to police, Melton was in a relationship triangle with a woman and a male employee at the junior high school.

Melton is being held at the Benton County Detention Center for a bond hearing and a no contact order/condition of release, which is required for a harassment charge, according to the release.

Harassment, carrying a weapon and loitering are all misdemeanor charges.
