Do you believe the CIA should be allowed to torture Al Qaeda and ISIS captives in order to garner intelligence in an effort to keep this country safe in today's modern world?

BTW, I thought "Zero Dark Thirty" did an excellent job of representing what probably happened.

Bonus question: Do you believe the timing of the release of this report is politically motivated? If so, to what end?

Works faster than reasoning with them.

Absolutely not. Much of the Intel from torture is bad Intel and I have a moral problem with torture and think it's sick that people condone it.

yes, I think it's politically motivated. The power is shifting back to the repubs and I think the dems are trying to stop it.

US citizens get a trial, all the rights and privileges thereof, period.

Non-citizens are separated into 2 categories:
Allied nationals: Get the rights of US citizens up to a point. That point is determined by how much their nation cares about them.
Non-allied Nationals: frick 'em.

No. It produces bad intel, it helps the enemy recruit and fundraise, and it's a moral catastrophe.

Hell yes. Get what you need.

Yes, it's politically motivated. The Ds have had their collective arse handed to them and needed something, ANYTHING, to put some type of negative light on the Rs.
Bush boogeyman.

The CIA shouldn't be placed under too bright a light because what they do would frankly scare the shite out of Joe Taxpayer. They do an ugly job in a very dirty environment where the object isn't understanding or empathy, it's all about winning and making the nation safer.

I will simply say thank you and let them go about their business when it comes to their playbook with international players

I admit I get far more pissy when it comes to domestic spying and I have little tolerance of what the NSA does here.

It's my duality.

Not government sponsored torture.

however, I've always believed they secretly do whatever they need to in order to obtain intelligence...and I'm cool with that. just don't let anyone fricking find out, and know that if you do your govt will prosecute you.

It should be "Yea," not "Yay." "Yay" makes it sound like you're excited about it. That's bad, m'kay?

"bad intel" is a broad stroke, and if it were not effective it wouldn't be used. It's up to the gatherer and analyst to determine if it's bad or not, and most of the time the gatherers already know.

I agree with this. It should never be brought to the light of day.

Most of it is mental torture, not physical. Don't believe everything you see on TV.

Mental torture and water boarding? All day Erryday.

Harder stuff... Not a fan, but I wager it doesn't happen like 24.

What we would do to interrogate a British or French National vs. a known terrorist is a world of difference. And it's hilarious to me that the SJWs so appalled by this would probably be happily killed by those they are offended for in a heartbeat.

I always wonder about this. Let's say it does produce bad intel, is it bad intel because we've got the wrong guys and they're just telling us something to stop fricking with them? If so, that's a problem. If it's guys that will take some simulated drownings and keep their shite inside because they will do anything to make sure Americans die, then I'm a little less likely to think it's a moral issue.

Also, what is torture? Is it waterboarding and things like waterboarding? We should talk about that. If it's feeding them pedialyte and bread and not giving them prayer mats or something, then it's not torture in my opinion. Especially in the light of what they'd do/have done to Americans on the other end.

As to political motivation; didn't the MIT guy Gruber appear in front of congress today to testify about how dumb Americans are and why they needed to lie/bamboozle to get Obamacare passed? If so, I'd imagine that's why we're hearing about this CIA stuff today. Own the news cycle baby, own the news cycle.
