Why are Auburn fans so threatened by the dismantling of UAB's football program?

I don't think you know what threatened means.

Threatened is the wrong word.. And it's BY FAR not only AU fans. Listening to sports radio here there's plenty of non AU fans calling for watts head and think it's the REC at work.

Has nothing to do with Auburn. But many supporters of football, the city of Birmingham and the state of Alabama have an interest in it. It was a power play by Cub Bryant who is such a snake in the grass he does not even allow his photo to be on the Alabama BOT page.

Exactly. Has nothing (or should have) nothing to do with Auburn/Bama. Far from just Auburn people upset. There are a lot of folks concerned with Birmingham and the State of Alabama that are mad about it. Problem is that it gets framed as an Auburn/Bama thing on message boards, with predictable results - Bama fans feel the need to defend, and Auburn fans feel obligated to take the other side. Not how it should be. That's not what it's about.

UAB Faculty Senate will be issuing a Resolution of No Confidence and a Resolution calling for the reevaluation of the AD. After circulation, will be voted on at special meeting.

I understand that anyone hates what has happened to these students, but I have to wonder if it were Troy or South Alabama which have nothing to do with the University of Alabama, would the Auburn fans be as upset.
I do think that there should have been more accountability for this before the program was canceled. I don't understand where the money has gone that the team got for playing all of those large schools. This is how Troy supports it's program. Also not sure why the large boosters were not contacted, as one of them has stated on news broadcasts. These boosters knew that this was being discussed, and I'm not sure why did they just sit back and wait to be contacted about money, why didn't the offer the money before this action was taken, and then whine about it later that they were not asked.
It sounds like a lot of people were at fault, and why are Auburn fans blaming Paul Bryant Jr. for all of it. He is a business man, and if I had any money(lol) I would certainly want him to invest for me. He is a smart man, and I don't believe that he would hurt these students if not forced to do so.

We were holding out hope that one day UAB could take down Alabama before they folded, and we'd have the state to ourselves, but they foiled our dastardly plan.

@jzenor: UAB Faculty Senate in January will consider either vote for "transparent assessment of all athletics" or a no-confidence vote for Watts.
