Being new to the SEC, I'm not familiar with these upper echelon bowls, is it exotic? Great restaurants all around? Fun filled family destination? Mountains or other amazing geographically inspiring scenery?

It's definitely different.

In the 16 years that we were in the Big 12, we went to the following locations for bowls:

1997 - Dallas, TX (Cotton)
1998 - New Orleans, LA (Sugar)
1999 - San Antonio, TX (Alamo)
2000 - Shreveport, LA (Independence)
2001 - Houston, TX (GalleryFurniture)
2004 - Dallas, TX (Cotton)
2006 - San Diego, CA (Holiday)
2007 - San Antonio, TX (Alamo)
2009 - Shreveport, LA (Independence)
2010 - Dallas, TX (Cotton)
2011 - Houston, TX (Car Care)

Out of 11 bowls in Big 12 play, we left the state of Texas 4 times and went to a bowl requiring a drive of more than 6 hours twice.

Out of the three years we've been in the Big 12, we've been outside of our normal footprint twice.

2012 - Arlington, TX (Cotton)
2013 - Atlanta, GA (Peach)
2014 - Memphis, TN (Liberty)

I'm from Memphis, and usually end up going to the Liberty Bowl every year. The Rendezvous is eh. Cozy Corner is a spot 5 minutes from downtown Memphis in a decent part of town. Downtown Memphis has alot to offer from Beale Street to Paula Raifords Disco which is more fun than you'll want to have. If you want to get out of downtown, head to Madison Avenue, see Eric at the BBQ Shop, and catch some good tunes at Lafayettes!

Tunica casino's are a short drive from Memphis.

Can get cold as North frickin Dakota that time of year. Last time we played in the Liberty Bowl the dumbass' who transport Tusk (Razorback mascot) to the game froze his poor arse to death on the way home after the game.

True story.

The weather in Memphis this time of year is touch and go. Sometimes its 60 degrees and warm, other times its 38 and windy. Last year, I went and saw State play Rice, and it was beautiful weather. So, hopefully, it'll be awesome.

Its amazing, I would recommend picking up a .45 ACP and kevlar vest before dinner.

Maintain situational awareness at all times, dont use an ATM in any unlit areas, etc.

Have fun!

Good stuff. From Memphis as well. Overton square in midtown has a great bar scene and cooper young which is really close to the Liberty Bowl. Downtown has a lot to offer for tourist but remember it's a smaller version of Bourbon street so it's extrmemly touristy. There isn't much out in east Memphis but if you're looking for fantastic food I reccommend any of chefs Andy Ticer and Michael Hudman 's restaurants, Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen, Hog and Hominy and their new butcher shop Porcellinos.

Has Missouri really never been to the Liberty? Isn't it one of the closest bowls to Columbia?

The Liberty used to be a nice bowl. Then it sucked for a while, but I think it's since regained some prestige.

Obviously never been to New Orleans. Lived there for six years and never felt threatened.
