I have a vision of Foley with a visor and the NBC in the chair next to him...and around the poker table sits the power brokers of the SEC coaching fraternity...Machen is in the background watching and nodding as Foley pushes all his chips to the center of the table...and saying "all in"

When you think about this hire and what he has done...he has to be very very confident about the NBC? Must have had a lot of intel handed him by trench coated snoops who are paid to get all the details of possible hires and rank them. He probably used a search company to start the process and then sent the snoops out to dig deeper.

Have to admire Foley for his out of the box thinking and also finding hires who REALLY want the job. Most of us never knew Muschamp was such a Gator fan growing up. Although the hire went south...it was only because of the offense and bad luck/decisions with OCs....and 2013 crazy year with injuries and a QB who regressed this year.

Foley will be the genius or the idiot based on this hire....Im thinking he got it right. He had to have the blessing of a few folks with the kind of $$ being spent...it aint monopoly money he is using. But the actual buyout isn't quite as hurtful when spread out and if he has the guy that can get us back to putting trophies back up in the display case.

This is really a needs to work out hire for Foley. If the NBC doesn't pan out, boosters and fans won't be happy regardless of how many final four appearances the women's soccer team has. That'll be three bad hires.

I trust him.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jeremy Foley had never met Jim McElwain until late Tuesday afternoon.

On Saturday morning at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, the University of Florida athletic director will introduce McElwain as the 25th head coach in Gators football history.

How did the hiring come to fruition? What was it like for some of the private negotiations to play out in public view? And why McElwain?

An upbeat Foley answered those questions and more during an interview Friday morning in his office as he prepared to welcome McElwain to town later this evening.

Two phone calls with McElwain will remain vivid for Foley – one on Sunday afternoon and the other on Thursday morning.

After spending two weeks with his internal staff researching candidates and vetting information from an array of sources, Foley’s search to replace Will Muschamp sped up considerably when Foley returned home late Saturday night from Tallahassee following Florida’s loss at Florida State.

By that time Foley had already targeted McElwain, who completed his third season at Colorado State on Friday, as a primary candidate.

“We identified him early and he rose to the top early,” Foley said. “He really did.”
