The Alabama Way

quote:

You know the Sims story. It's been told by now. They said he didn't have the grades to play college ball, and he buckled down and studied.

They said he'd never play quarterback at a school like Alabama, so he played other positions without complaint. When he found his way back to QB, he watched in the shadow of larger-than-life MCarron, and was nothing but a teammate for five years. When FSU's Coker transferred to Bama to take his rightful place at quarterback, Sims - in his final year -- did what he always did. He worked.

People tried - because this is Alabama - to turn it into an issue of black and white. But Sims did not bite. Sims did not complain. He asked no pity and showed no bitterness. He just worked more. And he won.

He's the American Dream, the living, breathing, winning embodiment of the Alabama Way.

Since GMAC, we've had a good run of QBs. Hope that continues.

My favorite Bama QB. No exaggeration. Used to be McElroy, now Sims. I'll have a sign in his honor at SECNation.

Probably my number 2 now.

AJ
Sims
GMAC
Namath (didn't see him play obviously, but still)

My top 4.

If Sims leads Alabama to the national championship I have no doubt he will be the most beloved Alabama QB since Pat Trammell.

Even with double digit national titles, 4 in recent memory, Alabama could earn a lot of neutrals' support with Blake Sims against a character like Jameis Winston.

He could have had one too. We had Florida and let it get away.

Let's be real. We haven't had any Matthew Stafford/Peyton Manning types.

Closest we've come (in the modern era) to a real 5 star super stud was Croyle (cannon arm--still not top tier elite, but he was wanted by a lot of schools) and he stayed hurt and was on our crappiest teams.

We win with smart college QBs who make plays when they have to--thinking of McElroy tapdancing down the sideline, or AJ's coming out party his first year, or Blake making the throws/runs in the clutch.

I believe Blake will be remembered fondly. If we win it all, he will be a legend.

That picture of him sleeping with his daughter post-IB, is all it took for him to move to number two for me.

Y'all know GMac will always be my #1 boo.
