Solid hire for Florida. I'm more relieved that Chip stayed in Philly, crisis diverted

Florida had to be expected to hire a good coach, so this is fine. I'm just glad it's not Chip Kelly, even though that was a pipe dream for them.

t is unclear at this point if Florida agreed to pay the full buyout amount of the schools settled on a smaller amount.

Will be interesting to see how that was resolved. What a steep buyout for a MWC HC.

I saw people, mainly on the Flordia board and SECRant mentioning names like Chip Kelly, Dabo Swinney, Freeze, Malzahn, and Harbaugh. I would have been shocked to see any of them go to Florida.

We'll have to wait and see about McIlwiane. Seems like a good hire, but a few years ago Boom seemed like a good hire. I'm more curious to see where Muschamp lands. Auburn thinks they are going to get him.

Boom also didn't have any head coaching experience.

Mcelwaine took a 3 win team to 10 wins in 3 years. That's something that Muschamp didn't have on his resume.

Good hire but the Gaders can't seem to make up their minds if they want an O-minded HC or a D-minded one. Maybe we can flip a coupla D 'cruits.

big question to me is more what is CWM going to do next...has anybody heard anything about him possibly going to USCe with Spurrier, that is more disturbing than the new head guy at UF imho

Hopefully this turns out like your breaking news on Tuesday for Todd Gurley.

Buyout details are pretty crazy.

quote:

To score the Colorado State coach, the Florida Gators will pay the largest buyout ever given to another school in college football history.

Florida said Thursday that it would pay CSU a total of $5 million -- $3 million in cash over six years and another $2 million to play a football game in Gainesville in the near future.

McElwain will also pay $2 million to make for a total buyout of $7 million. -

quote:

The total $7 million buyout is seven and a half times the average buyout paid by a school to another school over the past three years. Of the 21 buyouts that were public over that time period, the average buyout was $935,786.

A $7 million buy out coupled with a $6 million payoff to Muschamp...
gotta get some of those bull gators to pony up...a big hit for any AD to
handle even UF.

McElwaine's starting salary will be $200,000 more than Mark Richt's current salary.

True, and I am not saying he was a bad hire, but only time will tell. Seems good, but most people thought Muschamp was ready to make the jump. And Colorado State is a whole lot different than Florida. Could be a good hire. Looks like it right now, but only time will tell.
