Sorry NOLA.

Southeastern Conference officials and city leaders are in talks to keep the conference football championship game in Atlanta through 2026.

With a $1.4 billion retractable-roof stadium being built for the NFL's Falcons next to the Georgia Dome, the SEC is hoping to keep the prestigious title game in the Southeast's biggest city. Saturday's game between No. 1 Alabama and No. 16 Missouri will mark the 21st consecutive year the SEC title game has been held in Atlanta.

Documents obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution showed a 10-year deal is imminent, but wasn't likely to cost the city much more than it pays under the current contract.

"The fee won't change … in any significant fashion," Falcons president Rich McKay wrote in an e-mail to SEC commissioner Mike Slive.

The SEC will pay $355,189 for use of the Georgia Dome for Saturday's game. The fee will increase 5 percent to $372,949 in 2015 and another 5 percent to $391,596 in 2016.

The SEC title game has sold out every year in Atlanta except 1995.

By the time the first game is played the cost of the stadium is going to be $2.8 billion.

By all you mean Missouri and Texas A&M?

The rest of the games usual participants are pretty happy with this.

Happy it is staying in Atlanta. Now if only UGA could take advantage of the fact that it is basically a home game and win one.

edit: or even make it to the game when the SEC East is the worst it's been in a long time

Not sure why you think this?

ATL has best airport in the SEC footprint.
Staying in ATL keeps the ACC from getting a foothold there.
Central location and right on I-75 and I-20

Not surprised, but I thought a change may be made possible with the Peach bowl becoming one of the host spots for the national semifinal.

I still think the game should go to New Orleans every other year.

Atlanta is ok, but I guess geographically it is the best spot to have it.

Wish it could rotate to NOLA every now and then.

If football ain't ever gonna leave, basketball needs to be in Houston and baseball needs to be in Frisco.

Basketball is Nashville

Baseball needs to move around (Frisco, Memphis, Pensacola, New Orleans, Jackson, Gwinnett, etc).

Now that UAB has been oppressed we really need to move this game back to Legion Field.
