Much is made of Bryant installing the wishbone one off season and quickly going on one of the greatest runs in college football history. At the time, it was said that the game had passed Bryant by and a once great coach was simply resting on the laurels of his past achievements.
Then, he did what few coaches of his reputation can do: He stepped back and made a dramatic change.
He didn't change his philosophy, but he changed its implementation.
In 20 years, will we look back at this year, the year when Nick Saban changed his offensive philosophy to that of something he is on record as hating (and fearing), as similar to the move Bear Bryant made in the 70s? There are certainly parallels there.
Is he going to rip off another run of championships?
I guess we'll all be there to see it.
