Ohhh dear Lord!
Most of the talk yesterday in the coaching profession centered around Florida, Michigan, UAB and recruiting.
Last night I began to reach out to some connections in the profession about where Nebraska looks for their next head coach. I reached out to a number of sources who I felt might be involved themselves or would likely have heard who has a real shot.
Since last night I have spoken with a number of connections and the feeling in the profession is that Nebraska athletic director Shawn Eichorst seems to have a very short list – perhaps with only one name on it. Sources have told me he isn’t taking calls from coaches trying to get themselves involved. He doesn’t appear to be building a list. He sounds like he is locked in.
This one sounds like it is coming and it is coming soon. As always, we’ll keep you posted as things happen on The Scoop.
Update> Per sources, Nebraska is targeting Arkansas Bret Bielema and is in serious talks with him. More to come…

I'm seeing 3.5.... where do you get the 12.8 at?

bert said in his press conference today that if his name had come up as a possibility when we were looking at hiring him he would've backed out
he's not going anywhere that his name is linked to. if it ever happens it will come as a surprise imo

Here's some of the highlights of Bielema's contract with the UA:

•$2.95 million per year salary
quote:
•$12.8 million buyout in the first three years of the contract

•$9.6 million buyout in year four
Unless something has changed?

how about we work out a deal where we keep 2beez and they can have Cheaney? Any takers?

Oh you actually are correct. That is if we fire him.
He owes us 2.5M if he takes a new job. How did we manage that contract? If we fire him we owe him 12.5M, but if he gets a new gig he only owes us 2.5?

For those referencing an old and out of date Arkansas Business article re: Bielema’s buyout… nope. It’s about $2M.

Buyout for him leaving on his own is only 2.5 this yr I thought. Now if Arkansas wanted to buy him out its that crazy 13 million number or whatever.

Or you could read his actual contract in PDF form. Page 24 & 30 include the two buyout types.

Program is miles ahead of the dumpster fire it was when he got here.
If he goes we'll be fine. I'd be extremely surprised given that going back to the Big 10 is admitting that he's not good enough to hack it in the SEC and that he's a coward and doesn't live by his own principles.
I don't see Bert being the kind of guy that would swallow that pill. His ego is too big and if 9 win seasons get you fired at Nebraska how much leeway will be be given to run the program his way and not Osbourne's?
Also Nebraska WAS the bigger name, but now it's harder to recruit to than Arkansas is.
