Is McElwain really the best Florida can do?

Is his hiring official?

If not, maybe.

If it is, then no.

When Florida is swimming in titles in about 3-5 years I'll bump this topic.

Not official yet, but Foley certainly flew out to Colorado today. Rumor is trading the buy out with a home-and-home with Colorado State....... which would suck. We're Florida, we don't do home-and-homes outside of the state of Florida.

He's better than you deserve. You deserve Super AIDS, and when I say you, I mean the entire city of Gainesville.

He's a good coach, and he at least has proven (albeit at a smaller level) that he can quickly turn around a program AS A HEAD COACH. I do think Florida is the kind of place where you should be able to hire someone who has proven themselves at the highest level, though.

That's exactly what they've been saying on the Colarado State Boards about UF (and yes, that's a thing )

Another Florida school hired a former Saban assistant and he's doing just fine.

Assuming they can't get Chip Kelly or Jim Harbaugh, I think it's a solid hire.

No way to tell yet. He could be the next Meyer, or the next Zook. What he's done at CSU has been very impressive, though. UF can roll the dice, or try for a decent but not home-run hire. How many home-run hires are out there and available?

yes ...

bama and osu got lucky with their home run hires ... there are no home run hires out there ... chip kelly is not leaving the nfl ... brian kelly might ... might ... leave the dame ... that's it ...

ya'll have to gamble and hire someone who's up&coming ... we've all been there ...

This is a great hire for Florida. Part of the deal is that he will retain dj durkin our defensive cord under champ and d rob our secondary coach.

So if Saban was killed tomorrow in a tragic dwarf tossing mishap, you'd want Bama to hire McElwain?

Honestly even if that is the case, Florida and Bama have dramatically different approaches to sustained success (actually its an interesting contrast given that they're the most successful programs in the modern era of the SEC).

Maybe we can just trade Colorado State - Muschamp+Cash for McElwain. Then we avoid the whole discussion of Muschamp being a DC at an SEC school.
