The Alabama BOT isn't scared of competing with UAB on the field

They aren't scared of losing recruits to UAB. They aren't scared of not being able to afford UAB. UAT well past the point of diminished returns in their football program. Each Dollar spent is worth less and less, because all of the things that can buy a better program have already been purchased.
The Alabama BOT is afraid of being undercut by themselves. They're afraid of 40k people in the nation's most important TV market, their TV market choosing to pay 20 dollars to see a football game live instead of watching the Tide blow some poor team out on TV. They're afraid Johnny Sidewalker would rather pay 100 dollars for a UAB season ticket than 100 dollars to see UAB blow the doors off Western Carolina. They're afraid he might pay 20 bucks for a UAB shirt. I think it backfires. They're going to drive all those potential dual fans away from college football or to Auburn. They are going to cause irreparable harm to the academics side of the University. This is about revenue, as much as cost. That's my take, anyway.

Nah, it's just white trash people in power who developed a grudge and a mission over time and decided to exert the pressure to accomplish it.

Good gosh, people really believe this crap?
Is Ole Miss terrified of USM? Is Georgia terrified of Georgia State? Is Florida terrified of FIU or FAU? Is A&M terrified of UTEP?
Is America scared of Bolivia?
Do you guys really listen to yourselves?

You are stupid as frick.
Why do you think Birmingham is the largest college football market? Who do you think they're watching on TV.

You're either a terrible troll or have absolutely no fricking clue what you're talking about.

Athletics drive school spirit. School spirit drives enrollment. Enrollment drives academics.

Nailed it. Bryant Jr is pretty dispicable and the Bama BOT lets him run the show.
Bama fans don't seem to care though. They seem to like him and support his actions.

Why the frick is everyone suddenly knowledgable and concerned about UAB?

Because people watch Alabama and Auburn football. Do you need me to define the term "undercut" for you?

Other than scholarship players, no one has ever gone to UAB for the athletics.

Because there are 85 kids who worked their asses off to have UAB's best season in 10 years and that team won't exist next year because a couple of assholes who don't care about it have the power to end it.

Then why haven't those 40K people paid the $20 to see a UAB game in years?

Why haven't they bought season tickets in the past 20+ years? (Also, you overestimate Johnny Sidewalker - he still would rather live vicariously through Bama once per season than through UAB 6 times).

You continue to assume UAB has fans. If they did, the program wouldn't be in this mess.

Here is my summary:
1. UAB football isn't a great product and costs a lot of money and provides little return. There is a basis for eliminating it.
2. UAB football is being eliminated for reasons other than those in #1.

You have such a noble heart.

Except band members and cheerleaders.
My sister didn't go to Southern Miss for the athletics either, but it's a big part of her college identity. Sorority tailgates, homecoming, etc.
