If it isn't Muschamp, Venables, Foster or someone of similar regard I'll essentially be looking ahead to our next head coaching search in 2-3 years.

Sumlin has some very good qualities, but it seems pretty clear to me by now that he isn't going to win without either transcendent players or elite assistants. He himself just doesn't have the Xs and Os ability to lift everyone around him on game day.

Since Auburn fired their DC hard to imagine that not being Muschamp's first option. Do y'all really see him in Aggie Land?

No. I think our "big name" hire would be Venables.

I think the guy Sumlin is going to go after is the Memphis DC. Odom just fits the type of coordinator Sumlin tends to seek out.

I'm hearing Odom is a real possibility. Also someone claims to have seen an agent that represents both Muschamp, Odom, and other high profile coaches at Easterwppd.

Do not want.

Also, how soon is the dc position expected to be filled? Within the next week, after the bowl game? I'm not sure how these things typically play out.

I would rather have Odom than Gibbs but yeah I would be pretty disappointed

Muschamp's agent is Jimmy Sexton. He used to be Sumlin's agent but Sumlin moved to someone else a year or two ago but Sexton reps about half the coaches in the SEC. There would be literally no meaning to him being in BCS as he probably reps half our coaching staff as well

I have not heard Odom's name. Relax for a bit. There is a ways to go before a guy like Odom is in play. Just like the "Venables turned us down" or we offered "X dollars" rumors, we aren't even to that point. We fired our DC on Friday. Most teams didn't finish playing til yesterday. Right now we're talking to 3-4 candidates and seeing who fits. We'll probably offer our first choice tomorrow.

This. We either land a whale who can turn this ship around or Sumlin's goose is cooked.

Yep. Sounds like a Sumlin hire. Get a cheap coach who is good, by CUSA standards.

I'm not freaking out about Odom or Gibbs. I would be fine with either if that's who we choose.

I'm way too pessimistic to participate in this thread.

I'm expecting Gibbs or Odom, or maybe the secondary coach from ULL.
