hell, or any other football game,

When an offense is in a third and short, the QB generally lines up under center.

The A&M outright refusal to line up under center is baffling. It causes my blood pressure to increase and that aint good.

I honestly don't get the insistence that things are done a certain way. If we succeed on 3rd and short, we can lineup any which way they want as far as I'm concerned. And we actually used a traditional set early (but abandoned it when it stopped working).

Anyway, not to pick on you jobu, but I see so many posts about we should do things like {insert team that has success at something}. It's just very reactionary. They do so because it's part of their normal offense (or defense). We need to find success by merging it with our normal offense, not pulling a completely new set that we'd have to make multiple plays out of (and practice) just to give variety.

Our problem this year hasn't been 3rd and short. It's been that we can't run the ball when they know we are running the ball. And that filters through the entirety of the offense. It's a much bigger fix than set.

Yup.

It's a problem for our fan base (but not exclusive to our fan base in the slightest), but also a problem for us on both sides of the ball, IMO. With the exception of the SC and Auburn games, we have not done much in the way of straight up dictating the action on either side of the ball. Maybe it's been a talent issue, maybe it's been a coaching issue, most likely it's been a combination of the two, but until we can become the aggressor on a more consistent basis, we'll be left with this reactionary style of play, imo.

It's a simple fact that a run is more conservative and safer in a short yarge situation. Hell, a QB falling forward almost always gets that yard.

Why not just grit up and make the play.

except it doesn't. We've been completely unable to move the pile. 4th and 1 vs MSU and go under center and hit in the backfield. 3rd and 1 vs Mizzou and go pistol and hit in the backfield. When you lose at the point of attack, it doesn't much matter what set you are in.

Yup.

The abrupt decline of our oline play (for whatever reason) has proven to be our undoing.
