IMO this one looks like a lot more legitimate complaint about police issues than Ferugason ever was. 12 year old kid in a park with a airisoft gun, someone calls 911 panicking over it, dispatcher fails to tell cops that gun is likely fake, cop car rolls up high speed into the grass at the park, rookie cop gets out and pops the kid two seconds after they pull up. The kid was lifting his shirt and the cops claim they said hands up three times but I don't think they had time.

I don't see one party that acted correctly in this whole mess. The kid and his parents, all the way down the line pretty much did everything incorrectly.

I don't think it was malicious but it was a mistake. The whole incident is filled with things that should have been done differently.

We've had some talks with the boys at work about this stuff (they're all 12-14, by large minorities, etc). We basically had to give them the "this is how you deal with a cop" talk with our SRO backing it up. Because given some of their comments they sure as shite aren't getting it at home.

I heard about that but didn't know where it happened. From what I read the cop acted outside of his job and probably should go to jail. But I need to see more evidence.

I'm going to preface this next part by saying that I am in favor ofoas many as pospossible law abiding citizens owning guns as possible. But I'm not sure that cops need sidearm pistols. They already have a stun gun, mace or pepper spray, and a rifle and shotgun in their cars. I think that we could cut down on these unnecessary deaths if we made the cop have more time to think before he can use deadly force.

I don't think it's out of bounds to say some of these police departments need to look at how they train their officers. And come up with some viable ways to avoid killing a suspect.

Im usually for prosecuting cops that mess up on the job but this time I think firing is the right call. It was such a quick interaction and it could have been and should have been handled differently. I don't think it was criminal or malicious action but just someone that wasn't cut out for the job. The dispatcher should also be in trouble.

anyways here is a nice thanksgiving picture

Cops have to treat any call about a person with a gun(real or fake) that has been pointing it at people with extreme caution. I feel bad for the family and kid but the officer had to protect himself.

Simple solution, don't let kids run around with replica guns unsupervised.

a lot of these shootings could be avoided if cops used better judgement and the suspects realized they should follow an order when a gun is drawn. Then you fight it in the court system. However, sometimes the cop just drops someone without giving warning or time to respond, that is the a&m military training that cops here believe they need.

It is a two way street, cops are out of line at times and so are those they interact with. Some people though always back the cops, while others always back the suspect.

they didn't need to speed up into the park, that was reckless and if other civilians were there they just endangered them. How about parking and using cover and the pa system to give orders? Its laughable that cop defenders can never put any blame on those that are trained to handle situations. Is it that hard to admit that maybe they should look at how they handle these situations and find a better way that keeps them and everyone safe?
