A&M is just a creepy cult, not unlike Scientology.

I was doing some wholly unrelated reading last night, and came upon a list of criteria for identifying a cult. Some of them are readily applied to A&M....

-- Mind-altering practices (such as meditation, chanting, speaking in tongues, denunciation sessions, and debilitating work routines) are used in excess and serve to suppress doubts about the group and its leader(s).

-- The group is elitist, claiming a special, exalted status for itself, its leader(s) and members

-- The group has a polarized us-versus-them mentality, which may cause conflict with the wider society.

-- The most loyal members (the “true believers”) feel there can be no life outside the context of the group. They believe there is no other way to be, and often fear reprisals to themselves or others if they leave (or even consider leaving) the group.

Throw in the weird haircuts, the magical rings, and the fact that the A&M grad is ALWAYS the most awkward guy at the cocktail party, I think it's pretty clear. Cult.

Most people already figured out A&M was similar to a cult long before last night

I forgot one.... Cults establish compounds in remote areas to avoid outside influence or entanglements with authorities. I've been to College Station. Dead on balls accurate.

It's like a cult, but with uglier women.

Mediation - Yelling Tiger Bait for no reason
Speaking in tongues - Cajun
Denunciation sessions - Saying Geaux to Hell Ole Miss over and over again
Debilitating work routines - Having to do anything in a swamp.

-- The group is elitist, claiming a special, exalted status for itself, its leader(s) and members

Because LSU had Saban over a decade ago, they claim some equivalency with Alabama over the last 5 years, even though their zero National Titles to their 3 is anything but equivalent.

LSU refuses to have a rival and think it makes them special.

At least LSU fans are fun to hang out with.

Seriously, why are you people so socially awkward?

The Bryan College Station Metro Area would be the fifth biggest metropolitan area in Louisiana. But that's Louisiana. No one wants to live there.

Most awkward kids I've ever met were a group of LSU engineers. It was scary. A blend of backwoods swamp isolation, horrible social skills, and a terrible education... they were doomed to begin with.

Yeah, but Texans are vanilla. I've been to a high school game in west Texas. Yeah, the diamond in the desert? 25,000 people and you can hear a pin drop while Permian chokes away a playoff game.

It was quieter than a stadium with about 3000 people in Louisiana.

Texans are boring.

This is stupid. The 5th biggest metro in Louisiana means nothing. That's true for most states. Unless you are California or Texas most state populations cluster in 2-3 major cities.
