Some numbers and facts for Iron Bowl week:

Saban is 6-6 against Auburn as head coach at LSU and Bama.

While at Bama, he is 4-3 after being 2-3 against AU at LSU.

Keep in mind that while at Bama, 2 of those 4 victories came against AU teams that finished with losing records including the worst season in AU football history.

Saban has coached against Auburn teams that would finish the season with nine or more wins six times.

He's lost all six of those games.

Saban (LSU) lost in 2000 to AU team that finished 9-4, in 2002 to another 9-4 team and in 2004 to Auburn's 13-0 SEC champs. At Alabama, Saban lost in 2007 to a 9-4 Auburn team and in 2010 to Auburn's 14-0 BCS champs. And then there was last year. In case you don't remember this is what happened.

Then THIS happend.

Alabama has lost the last 9 Iron Bowls to AU teams that would finish the season with nine or more wins: 2013, 2010, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2002, 2000 and 1997.

The last time Alabama won an Iron Bowl against an Auburn team headed toward nine or more wins was 1994. That was Terry Bowden's second season as head coach, and it was his first defeat on the Auburn sideline.

Auburn's won four of the last eight Iron Bowls against Alabama teams headed toward nine-plus victories. AU beat an 11-2 UA team in 2013, 10-3 UA team in 2010, an Alabama team headed toward 10-2 season in 2005 and an Alabama that finished 10-3 in 2002.

I proposed that question to the bama faithful over on the rant last week. If we win in t town this week, saban will be 4-4 against his in state rival while having the #1 recruiting class most of those years and while losing what were two of the biggest iron bowls in history

I asked would they be satisfied with that. It was like a cricket farm

I'm certainly not saying we'll win, but I believe there is fight left in this team. And based on those numbers that gives me more hope.

I read all the negabarners on the board, but I can't help it.

Come and join me fellow posibarners!

Saban's played more games in JHS than at his home stadium... kinda skews the numbers a little. Still impressive though.

Alabama is the favorite of 19 of 19 state editors and college football writers heading into Saturday's game with Auburn. The average score from their annual Iron Bowl predictions: Alabama 32.6, Auburn 22.1. Last year, Alabama was the pick of 17 of 18 voters by an average score of 32.6-22.8 and Auburn won 34-28. Here are their comments and picks: LINK

Al.com gets in the act. They must read the rant.

The numbers in this relationship are as convincing as the anecdotes. Dating back to his introduction to the SEC at LSU, Saban has a winning record against every team in the league but one. That one is Auburn. Saban is 6-6 against Auburn. He was 2-3 against the Tigers while at LSU, and he's 4-3 against them at Alabama.

He has never lost to Auburn in back-to-back seasons. He has lost to the Tigers in consecutive games, but that fact comes with a giant asterisk. He lost his last game against Auburn as the LSU coach in 2004, and he lost his first game against the Tigers as the Alabama coach in 2007.

He has never beaten an Auburn team that finished with nine or more wins. He's 0-6 on that score, the losses coming in 2000 (Auburn went 9-4), 2002 (9-4), 2004 (13-0), 2007 (9-4), 2010 (14-0) and 2013 (12-2). He's never lost to an Auburn team that finished with eight or fewer wins. He's 6-0 by that measure, the victories happening in 2001 (7-5), 2003 (8-5), 2008 (5-7), 2009 (8-5), 2011 (8-5) and 2012 (3-9).
