We played both well, but we did match up very well with Wichita State and pretty well with UCLA, who I don't think is the same caliber as this ISU team. I see the point you're making, as I still believe we weren't that bad last year like our record suggested, but everything about this team is different so I don't see the comparison holding much weight. We're actually running a competent offense and have MUCH more depth than last year.

Tonight I was impressed with Norris's toughness. Niang schooled him at times but he was constantly battling for rebounds.

I know it's tough to keep Hale out of the game, but we were a better team when Norris was in. He actually played something resembling defense on Niang. He also made several off-ball defensive plays. He's much better defensively than I could've ever expected as a freshman.

Another positive to take from tonight was Cooper hopefully gaining a lot of confidence from this game. He's always had the ability, he's just needed the confidence.

Im just happy with the performance. It was a vast improvement from last year. We have to remember we have a lot of new guys this year. We have a ton of potential and I think they will live up to it for the most part. The fact we aren't going 10 minutes in the second half without a field goal is enough to keep me on board

seems like garrett would have matched up well with niang, although I'm sure he still would have gotten his

Offensively we seem 100x better. You can't allow that many easy buckets though but face it, that team was legit. They'll be tough to beat all year.

We need the split.

Did anybody watch much of the Arizona State/Maryland game last night? I watched very little and was curious what to expect from ASU.

He might have been better than Hale was on him, but he would've gotten bullied more than Norris or Coop would have IMO. I think Coop was the only one who could've held his own physically against him. Zone was the best way to contain him, and they had the shooters to beat the zone. They're a very tough matchup for just about any team.

Was anyone a little surprised we went away from the zone in the last 10 min of the 2nd half? Even though they hit a couple 3s on it, it still seemed like our best chance defensively. It seemed to frustrate them into making bad decisions half the time.

I watched the 2nd half of the AZ State game.

They seem to have some versatile players but their offense is nothing like we faced last night. They had 4 players in double figures, their four man went 7-10 from 3. That worries me a bit based off Hale's performance vs Niang last night.

We're favored by 4 and I do think we're better. I'll be sorely disappointed if we lose.

Someone else will need to start the game thread tonight.

ETA: Just saw they beat Bethune Cookman 49-39...so no, we aren't dealing with an offense like last nights. We should look better defensively tonight
