I thought EJ was a 3, but maybe he got the bama bump late in the game

He was a 3 until he got his grades high enough to get big time offers. Was a 4 by signing day. Would have been a 5 if his grades were never an issue.

What happened to Jonathan Cook? Or do we not ask about him. Lol

This. He's much better than last year but I wouldn't rate him any higher than adequate this year. Just gives up too many deep passes. And I'm not the kind of person that expects CBs to never give up a catch. I'm usually the one defending CBs including Cyrus last year.

The thing that struck me the most about the WC game was how much more successful they were at throwing downfield than we were. Obviously we didn't have Cooper, but WCU managed to complete some without a Cooper.

Ah. I stopped watching that in the second half because I didn't want to see anyone lose a knee. Haven't seen his name since he enrolled. Thanks!

dude plays his best two games of the year against lsu and state, then gives up a couple in a scrimmage and now should sit the bench for a freshman because hes got all of those starz. #gumps

Cyrus and Eddie are easily our 2 best corners. Brown had been beaten badly in the limited time I've seen him. Cyrus had a ton of pass breakups that I can recall especially in the state game. He got beat ona perfect throw with outstanding coverage against a receiver with 6 inches on him.

He has been beaten, but certainly not badly. He was always in position.

Once again the some Monday Morning QB's. Whoever said the system needs to be learned to play fast is 100% correct. Also the not turning the head around is a coaching tool not a player mistake.

Alabama corners are trained to play the receivers eyes not turn to find the ball. It's similar to why we play bump and run coverage, risk and reward.

If the DB turns his head to locate the ball and cannot make the play he is totally burned and its a TD most likely.

If he plays the receiver, yes he may catch it but he can also tackle the guy negating said TD. There are some plays where they do turn around but that's usually redzone. Go back and watch and see I am right. Also the only other time they turn is when they have clearly forced the receiver out of bounds, why would they turn you say? Because the receiver is now ineligible.

That about sums it up.

Brown has been burned plenty of times. I don't think he's looked much better than Sylve. He gets abused in run D too.

Not really questioning how they are being coached because the players are usually in good position, even Slyve was in the WVU game for the most part, but at some point you should be able locate the ball. We play alot of route reading and yes we read the receivers which explains why in the red zone we look back because there are only a few routes receivers will run fade, back shoulder etc. But there are plenty of times when the ball goes just over our DBs heads and their arms are flailing, just my observation. Good points though

Quick question, did we redshirt Marlon Humphrey?

I thought he played vs FAU, but apparently he didn't. So, yeah, looks like we somehow managed to redshirt Marlon Humphrey. Only at Bama.

I feel like Brown's biggest problem is technique coming out of breaks. A lot of that in the OM game had to do with Ole MIss's shitty arse turf field, but he will get better with his breaks with time and coaching.

I think his problems are the same problems other young CBs go through. He is thinking too much. When he learns the system better he won't think, he'll just fly.

I have heard this mentioned more than once. Is there a link to where Saban or Smart discuss this technique of never locating the ball?

I really am interested since I have read it more than once.

Do we know for sure that they are taught not to turn and look for the ball? I ask because I've watched our CBs practice running downfield with a receiver then turning and finding the ball during warm-ups before every game and open practice. Don't know why they would practice it that much if they weren't expected to do it in a game.
