Who should melt? Christians, because Obama is a muslim, or Muslims, because Obama is quoting the bible?

Are Latinos really leaning a lot more Republican? Why would Obama try and do an Executive Order thing? Can't he get Congress really quick before they get kicked out?

He only has the SenTe and they passed a comprehensive immigration bill a year and a half ago. Boehner won't even bring it to the floor for debate in the House. He wants to do it piece meal and the only action they've taken is a bill to increase border security.

You mean like the over 300 bills that currently sit on Reid's desk?

Well, make that 299 since they finally brought the Keystone one up in an effort to save ML's doomed arse.

The House politically can't act on anything but border security. They're elected in that two year cycle and so many are sitting in very conservative districts. They'll get primaried on the right if they go any farther. The Senate has more flexibility.

So this EO will likely stand for the next two years unless the Senate and House can get aligned to pass something. I think border security coupled with reworking the guest worker program could be a suitable solution to start with for both houses. Doing something about those already here is going to be trickier. The end goal should be documentation and squeezing them for more tax dollars right? The House likely won't stand for anything that even sounds like "amnesty".

In short, the gridlock of Republicans will probably keep the EO in place for the next two years. It's a nice wedge to drive into the divided factions of the GOP. It also puts currently confident Republicans in a spot to overestimate their public support and overplay their hand and look like they dislike Hispanics in the process. Just a political game with actual consequences for actual people.

Sure. Both the House and Senate have a pile of bills passed by the other chamber sitting on their desks. Many of them are just symbolic bills they knew had no chance of getting through the other chamber when passed, such as all the House bills to repeal ACA.

Difference with the immigration issue is Boehner promised a comprehensive House bill on immigration this past session. So not only did he not bring the Senate's bill to the floor, he failed to deliver a House version of the bill.

And here we are.
