I agree with the OP. I think Alabama loses to Georgia in for the SEC championship and they move Alabama to #5. And like I said, I agree with the O.P.

That would fun but you cant play a 16 team tournament in football unless you eliminate the conference championship games and eliminate at least 1 game in the regular season.

Not if you make it conference champs only - and seeding based on SOS to encourage strong OOC games.

We'll be a 5-7+pt favorite over the dogs (assuming we beat AU). Bama's defense is designed to beat a good running team. Despite close wins at Arkansas and LSU we kept them way below their averages (both only scored 13 pts).

Think it all plays out & #5 & maybe #4, has 2 losses.

What a dumb frick you are. All Bama fans have done was bitch about being #5 and now that y'all are not you are saying no one can bitch?
You dumb shite Bama fans need to go drink some cult kool-aid.

We'll have no regrets being #5 with another loss. And I think I speak for most when I say we like it that way. We are in charge of our own destiny. If we screw it up it wasn't meant to be.

I can probably come around on this but no way you can tell me that the Big XII champ deserves an automatic spot.

I bet this will happen as soon as they can agree on how to do it without extending the current season an extra week (which most say is what college presidents won't consider).
The only feasible way I can think of is to eliminate conference championship games to allow for the first round of the 8 team playoff.
However, if they do that, deciding the champions of 4 of 5 conferences becomes quite an issue since everyone has 12-14 members now.

they need to eliminate a regular season game ... it was stupid to add a 12th game in the first place ...

Are yall serious you know #9 would bitch just as loud as #5.
and they would have FAR less of a gripe being left out than the current #5 just like #5 currently has far less of a gripe than #3 in the old BCS system.

Oh I dunno, how about start the playoffs sooner than Jan 1? Why they think its a necessity to take a month off before a playoff game in this day and age is beyond me.
EVERY other level of CFB seems to have been able to figure this shite out so for the FBS Presidents to act like its some impossible task is pretty GD pathetic.

Georgia Southern being in your playoffs lets you know that isn't a good idea.
under the 5 power conference champions, 3 at larges you get
1. Alabama
8. Ole Miss
4. Mississippi St
5. TCU
3. Oregon
6. Ohio St
2. Florida St
7. Baylor
Doesn't cheapen the playoffs by letting in shite teams like Memphis, Georgia Tech, CSU, and NIU.

I don't think there is any way this happens.
They added the extra game mainly due to the immense amount of money top football programs make per home game.
It means billions of dollars a year when you consider every team plays the extra game (instead of just 8 with a playoff) and not just money for schools but also the economies around the venues.
This isn't an issue at lower levels or other in sports. Lower football divisions don't have the extra regular season games because of this acute financial difference.
That's why there has to be a different solution.

Winter finals are the main thing preventing a single team playing every week until Christmas.
Getting rid of the conference championship games is going to be the only way to fit a longer playoff into the college presidents' demands, unless those demands change. .
It's the only way that every single team doesn't lose an extra game and all the money from that just so 4 games can be played.

I dunno. They put Stayte at 4 so the two SEC schools would play and guarantee there wasn't another 2011 deal, which is what spurred all this in the first place.

And if the games go after the first day of spring semester, it opens up a whole can of worms in terms of eligibility.

This is the correct answer. Op is insane.

I wasn't even thinking about that. Not sure if it's on the college presidents' list of objections but it would certainly be a huge potential issue for ADs and coaches.

They're there as a 16 seed facing Alabama in Tuscaloosa.... I see no issue. They're disposed of immediately and the #1 essentially gets a bye. Should #16 win...? well goddam, talk about a headline. Letting conf champions in doesn't cheapen anything, they enhance it; it's the bread and butter of a playoff system.
Right now the Power 5 don't have the autonomy to enact something that big... ie, a championship that only they get VIP tickets to. Even with their new power something like that would require a complete and separate division.
