Also, there is misinformation on what is considered a "major" in terms of basketball conferences.

While the "majors" are basically the same as the "power 5" conferences + the new Big East, if you actually rank the strength of the conferences, you come out with:

1. ACC
2. Big East
3. PAC 12
4. Big Ten
5. Big 12
6. Atlantic 10
7. American
8. SEC

So long as your school is committed to having solid basketball facilities all you need is the right connections to the AAU and high school coaches in your region and you can do very well regardless of school size.

So something we should excel at to begin with and be able to shut out smaller programs from.

You also seem to ignore that while the SEC technically has more resources, they also tend to have far more teams than a school like Dayton that they have to spread the wealth to.

I find it hard to believe that we get less money. See below.

On top of that, most of the resources go directly to football anyway so the gap for basketball just isnt there comparatively speaking.

Again, while I do tend to believe that they focus more on basketball, I still don't see how financially they can top us even if we spend less money (percentage wise) on basketball than they do. According to this article, each school only makes $357K/year.. And those 357K are probably thinned out to support Title IX sports (whereas football supports ours with Millions)

The biggest fact that most football first fans fail to understand about basketball is that basketball is a much easier game to dominate as an individual. This means that you can hit it big with 1 or 2 recruits and go way further than a team that has more "talent" on average, but star players that aren't as good. If a smaller school hits it big with a couple players, it's going to make a huge impact whereas in football, it will have less of an impact due to how the game is played.

OK, now this I can believe.

So why in the hell aren't we finding anymore Acie Laws??? (Don't bother answering that....at this point I'm just being stubborn

in our region we mostly do.

its not like we are getting our asses beat by Southland or Sun Belt schools on the reg. Its just that other schools in our region have put more towards basketball for a while now.

Didn't say that, I said we have to spread the money around more than they do. It's easier to make your sports teams competitive when you have less of them to worry about.

Again, we put so much more towards football that the wealth gap from an A&M bball vs a Dayton bball simply is not the massive gulf you would find between an A&M and a Miami Ohio.

For the most part, players in all sports still tend to stay moderately close to home. You must take into account that basketball in the Midwest is a way bigger deal than it is in Texas. A lot of athletes that could be excellent bball players in this state gravitate towards football instead. The popularity of 7on7 only exacerbates this as the multi sport star is becoming a thing of the past. Since 7on7 isn't the same year round deal up in the colder states, their potential talent levels are not diluted as much as ours. Its only been in the last 10 or so years that bball in Texas has started to come close to producing enough talent that multiple schools can all live off of it with equal success. Add in the talent that football has always taken away and the increase in kids who focus on only one sport and it shouldn't be much of a surprise that smaller Mid Western schools can compete with big states schools from the South and Texas.

If anyone is wondering why I'm not freaking out about this loss, it's because I was expecting it.

I said before the season that our performance in nonconference would tell us where this team would end up. A loss to a team that's likely between a 5-8 seed in this year's tournament in the manner that we lost will hopefully prevent any more games like Rice 2011, Southern 2012, or North Texas 2013.

I feel like that's the most positive thing you've ever said about the basketball team.

Go back in time and look at the 2010-2011 season.

I know 2 games in is early, but that's what this season is starting to look like.
