Has the CFP committee done a good job so far?

I think they've done pretty well so far, but I'm interested in what everyone else thinks. Upvote for yes, downvote for no. Thanks.

they haven't selected anyone to play in the college football playoff, so i'd say this question is horribly premature...like my belief auburn was a really good team (since it was going to go that way anyway).

I definitely think so. They seem to be unfettered by what ESPN and other talking heads think and are just doing what they themselves think. The polls would neeeeever drop an undefeated FSU to 3rd, but FSU clearly doesn't look like the best team.

They sucked up until a couple of days ago. Doing an awesome job now though.

I have to agree with piggidy. So far, I like the way they have ranked the teams and I think they've done an outstanding job. But up until now, there is no such thing as a "conference champion". Let's see what happens when (and to what degree) this is factored into the equation.

I think these weekly polls will come back to bite them. A lot of times the season will play out and that would clear up a lot of this confusion right now. If you keep ranking different teams in that 4 spot and they all win out, they will be hollering how could you rank MSU 4th this week and TCU 4th next week. That will hurt them.
I think the top 2/3 will be easy to identify once it all plays out, it will be chaos for that 4 spot when you are trying to pick #4 based on schedule strength, conference champ, etc.
Just go to 8 and that way every conference champ is pretty much included.

I agree there is a long way to go and this could completely change, but I have been impressed with them so far. I didn't know if other people felt the same way.

i don't even know why they're putting out rankings right now. They're not bound to them, so what purpose do they serve?

They entertain the masses and provide fodder for sporting news. The whole process increases interest in college football.

It provides a weekly "event" for ESPN to make money from and all the CFB media blowhards to blather about.
It's all about $$$$.

That's it. Which is why to say they've done anything (good or bad) as of now makes no sense.

It is going to be interesting
I think there will be a 1 loss champ in 4 of the 5 power conferences and an undefeated one.
and then there is my be a quality 1 loss SEC team in the mix.
Should be pretty interesting stuff.

It's all political.
So, I have a hard time with HOW to judge this bs. I am not a fan of it.
In terms of accomplishing what THEY set out to accomplish, I offer them an A+... for being perfectly political.

Mostly done well, but I really think their first ranking was the best. Rewarded Win-loss over everything else. Should get back to that

C-
They are just making sure that they differ from either of the voter polls. And each week the prior week's reasoning is out the door, like it gets redefined each week. They get the six right but there are some real head scratchers beyond that.

The committee has structured it well. If Alabama wins out number 4 spot goes to big 12 or big 10 champ. Mississippi State watches on tv.
Sports media says great job committee.
Fairness will be the battle cry.

At some point really soon they have to stop saying that 4-whatever are really close. Say that the final week and all hell will breakout.

My only complaint would be that it seems that style points do matter. Running up the score can help you and vice versa.
I'm confused over the Baylor and TCU thing as well. If they are that close in the polls, then the edge should go to the winner of the heads up IMHO.

They are weighting wins and losses to ranked and non ranked teams too much. Also, they give way to much weight to teams with great offenses but also with bad defenses (Oregon, TCU, Baylor, AU before loses). Defense wins championships and if you don't have a good one it should hurt your ranking not be ingored.

Good point.
Another question to think about. If Florida State hadn't just came off a NC, and say they started out ranked in the top 15 at the start of the season...would they even be in the top 4 right now being undefeated considering their "book of work", as they put it, with so many come from behind wins and barely beating marginal opponents?
