The more I see of Bruce, the more I like him. We're gonna have a lot of fun in basketball for the forseeable future.

I don't know if Auburn will win any more games this year, but damn if they won't be entertaining. Bruce is the shite.

I love how the game coverage feels like 50% Bruce 45% game 5% other team stuff

Pearl needs to quit BB and open a marketing company. Dude is under paid for his talent. Glad to have someone promoting our program in this fashion. With that said I bet I only watch one game this year. Live in BB country and freaking hate the sport. Short man mentally I guess.

Honestly, I would enjoy seeing Auburn become a basketball school over football. I really do care about AU's academics, and elevating our bball program will begin to associate the school with finer institutions around the country...football doesn't do this. The bottom line is, schools with excellent bball programs seem more prestigious...from the outside looking in, one knows Duke bball is great, but it doesn't run the university, where in football, the sport can overshadow everything, and it does at several schools in the SEC.

Basketball overshadows everything at Kentucky and they aren't even a good school.

One of my best friends from HS went to Harvard while I took a full ride to AU. I make more money than him

Seriously though, it has nothing to do with basketball that makes these schools better. Being good at basketball won't attract smarter students either. Only reason why quality academic institutions are able to field successful bball teams is because basketball does not need the size and financial support that football does.

This is true, and it's that decreased size of financial support that keeps the influence of the program 'in check' so to speak.

I'm certainly not saying basketball has any relationship to the academic standing of a school. It seems though that a school can run a top tier program without sacrificing much in the way of academics. There are exceptions, however, as can be seen at UNC where they did, in fact, compromise academics for the success of their basketball program.
