Didn't feel like bumping an old thread, but just wanted to bring up 2 quotes that Pruitt gave at the Columbus bulldog club meeting back in the summer.

quote:

-First thing coach, you gotta beat Auburn...

CJP: (interrupts the question,) "I'm not used to worrying about Auburn. Next question".

-For those of us who are concerned about the secondary, can you give us a reason to feel good about our secondary this year?

CJP: I've never been part of a bad secondary.

Check, and check

Man I love this guy.

What he's done with this secondary that's about as razor thin due to attrition and injuries as you could have, is nothing short of miraculous.

Makes you wonder what the HELL happened in Jacksonville. I hope he's "used to worrying" about Florida as a result.

Agree. We lost JHC, Shaq, and Matthews who we assumed were 3/4 of our best secondary players (swann being the other). We were hoping to get big contributions from Fenteng and maybe kennar Johnson, then lost both to injury. To see how our secondary has played since the UT game is almost unbelievable.

We're talking about a guy who has been on the defensive staff of 4 of the last 5 national champions. Incredible. I hope we pony up and give him whatever he asks for to keep him around.

The lack of talent in our secondary and the fact that we have only lost 2 games is pretty remarkable. The fact that we removed almost our starting core from last season and have still managed to do pretty well in pass defense is outstanding so just imagine what Pruitt can do when he actually gets some big time playmakers on that side of the field.

I have been impressed with Mauger as I feel like he has made the most progress. He was awful last year in pass coverage and he has had some rough games this year but he has also made some big time plays and been a key in the secondary.

I give Pruitt props because he really didn't have much to work with this season in the secondary.

Our OLBs were dummies who didn't keep their lanes.

He's 4-2 against florida, with 3/4 of the wins being blowouts.

last year mauger was one of the worst safeties I've seen at UGA under richt. I wouldn't have cared if we kicked him off the team.

This year he's the complete opposite. Amazing what competent coaching can do.

2013...59th nationally in pass "D"...18TD's...7int.s...228yds/gm (13 games)

2014...13th nationally in pass "D"...11TD's...12int.s...181yds/gm (thru 10 games)

With 2 TO teams coming up I can only see the '14 stats getting better...

Swann is a new man under Pruitt. Sanders is a star and Parrish is starting to come on. Heck, Bowman has even made some plays.

JHC and TThompson would have ruled the world under Pruitt.

Moving forward into next year, I think Parrish is about to be a stud at corner or star along with Sanders at safety. Mauger will still be solid at safety. I expect Fenteng will have the inside track at one of the starting corner spots like he did this year before injury. Langley, Terry, and Bowman also have a shot to be in the mix.

Then add the freshmen. I know Pruitt really likes the Abram kid, and a lot of people in south FL are high on Baker. Roundtree is more of a project I think. I think we need to add 2-3 more who are ready to play immediately.

Agree.

Speaking of the star position, I am liking what they did with Floyd there. Any chance he is used more often in that role? Also, I really don't think he should be going pro next year - what say everyone?

I love it against teams like Auburn, but he'd be a liability in coverage against more advance passing teams. We should have used him there against Florida in hindsight.

Floyd probably shouldn't go pro, but he most likely will. He'll get a high grade based on upside.

Depends on the offense. We used him there a ton vs AU and some against clemson because that helps us counteract that spread type of offense they run. If/when we play bama he will strictly be an OLB.

Fact is, we don't have the horses we have had in recent years, but we look better

And we are STILL alive for the damned playoffs - yeah, we need some help, but we are alive...

Our talent will be better next year on both sides of the ball

There is not that much drop off at running back and we should be better at QB and receiver

On defense, we ought to be a lot better

The future looks bright

not quite sure I agree

disagree on both, as of now.

secondary should be lights out, but we COULD potentially lose all 4 starting LBs plus thornton, drew, and toby from the DL.

what has Brice done to make you think he won't handle the job well?

Next year will be a roller coaster. Ramsey will be learning, OL needs to find a new leader, and the defense will be super young pretty much across the board.

It should be a fun team to watch imo, but I wouldn't expect a team to compete for the playoffs.

2016 team could be something fierce.

Big Arm but still young and inexperienced. I don't expect better qb play next year either. We will probably hit more deep balls but I can see him throwing more pics and taking more risk.
