This is just for fun and giggles...but a certain color guy doing Monday Night Football in the booth would send shockwaves in the SEC.

You talk about recruiting? The pied piper would bring them in by the droves and make Bama look silly. Afraid too much NFL in him though. Still has the condo on the beach though in Redington.

Players would be listening to his every word trying to springboard to the pros and he would possess a lot of contacts to the next level. Just don't think he wants to recruit 17-18 yr olds that much...or babysit them and make sure they attend classes or interact with the university lifestyle.

I don't have anything against Gruden, but he hasn't coached in 6 years, I don't think he goes back in anytime soon. Quite honestly, I don't blame him. Still Getting paid lots of $$$ to travel/watch and talk football

Pass on Gruden. The guy has never been a college head coach and hasn't coached at the college level since 1991. Also, his win percentage is worse than Muschamps.

Best possible hire that won't happen is obviously Tim Tebow.

If anyone can save Florida, it's him.

This and he doesn't have the mental make up to suck up to 17-18 entitled prick athletes. His act got old at the end of his Tampa Bay Buc run too. We were glad to see him go.

BTW the payout gravy train ended already....but he is an NFL guy....but again...just the name recognition though would get recruits lined up. But again....just a fun name to throw in for a laugh.

It's fun. I can agree with that. If I did what ifs, I'd be jumping for joy over Gruden.

I really have no interest in Gruden. Yeah, he would bring in recruits for a little while, but the guy has a pretty mediocre record. One Super Bowl, and then?

He's not quite as bad as Gene Chizik, but he definitely had a pretty steady decline after that one year. Out of the next six season, he never won another playoff game, and three of them were losing seasons as well.

So you get a good recruiting class or two until, at least if his history is a guide, it becomes clear that Florida is a mediocre team that occasionally has a pretty good season. Why would you want to play for that when you can go play for a Saban who has a big name AND delivers?

Then we end up back where we are right now, except we probably owe the coach a helluvalot more money to get him out of town.

Lucius...Im not a fan of the NFL at all or even a Gruden fan really...but the coaches in the NFL are hindered or helped by $$$$$ the owners pay for players or if they do soend money...they spend it wisely. HCs in the NFL do not distate who is drafted...teams have white collar stiff necks do all the research and the GM and the accountants do the drafting....so please don't point out Grudens record under cheapskate ownership of the Glazers.

A PRIME example of this is Dan Marino...who I considered one of the top 3 all time pro QBs to ever play....amd I watched Unitas, Tittle, Starr, Snead, Gabriel and guys like Bartowski.
Marino never had run game to help him and seldom had a defense...but he did have awesome WRS who were not that highly paid.

Gruden would have college QB under his wing develop into a winning QB and able to pick apart defenses.

That's changed more recently. A lot HCs are really involved in the personnel decision making (not officially in title, but they're very influential).

As for Gruden, I actually think it's an interesting name that I hadn't thought about in all this searching. So it was fun to talk about at least

I really think the best hire that won't ever happen is Jim Tressel. The guy knows how to win at the highest level, he's put a ton of kids in the NFL and can recruit his tail off. He wouldn't need to be bought out from some other school and you can probably get him on the cheap. Give him our talent and he is well known to coach them up. I think he would be a home run hire but Foley won't touch him because of the show cause IMO.
