I don't think Miss St will make the playoff if they don't win their division

After all, that is the entire reason we have this clusterfrick of a system to begin with.

They are in as of now, but at the end of the day I do not see them being selected over a 1 loss conference champion.

you are correct. all we have heard is how the committee will put weight on conference ships. Someone will jump them.

And they will melt furiously.

I think you're right... UNLESS the SEC West winner doesn't win the SEC Championship.

If Mizzou makes it to Atlanta and upsets the opponent from the West, I think MSU gets in with one loss.

I think the Committee (and everyone else who appreciates college football) wants a representative from the SEC.

They won't get in over Baylor or OSU after it's all said and done.

Yeah that's how I feel. I think the only way they can get in unless Auburn wins the IB is if the East representative somehow wins the SECCG

They ve already said this. MSU fans thinking Mullen playing to keep it close are beyond delusional.

If they had wanted to do that then they should have dropped MSU lower after this loss. Its going to be hard to jump MSU if Ole Miss eats Arky and ends up being a top 8 team in the egg bowl. That victory would be too strong to just get jumped.

That could be correct. Hadn't really thought of that scenario. Mizzou or UGA won't make it even if they win out, I don't think and Bama wouldn't either with a loss in the CCG.

That's probably their best hope.

There are 2 schools of thoughts on why we have the playoff

the SEC thinks we have it to rewards good SEC teams that are just playing in too hard a conference

The rest of the country thinks we have it to keep 2 SEC team form being in the playoffs.

clearly the selection committee falls in the first category.

That's the point though. I don't think resume is going to matter that much if they are looking at 2 1 loss teams and one is a conference champ and the other finished second in their division.

That's what ended the BCS in the first place. They won't want to repeat that scenario.

If TCU, Baylor and OSU all lose then I agree with you...but that's what I said in the OP.

It will be a travesty that overthrows the committee before it ever gets started if any of those 3 one-loss teams override a one-loss SECWest team with 4 top 10 wins and the only loss to #1 on the road by 5 in a game you lost by turnovers and made the eye test/were superior in statistically.
