We would be 9-1 with our only loss to #9 Georgia. We would be somewhere in the 5-9 range in these rankings with a punchers chance at the playoff.

Yepp. It hurts. As it stands now, I see no way of making the playoffs. Even if we get to and win the SECCG. Even if we manage to win the next 2, we probably only squirm our way to about 10 depending on what others ahead of us do. Win the SECCG and I don't think it's enough to jump to the final 4.

Yes it's about as bad of a loss as you can have. When else has a team ever started 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the toughest conference in America yet not even received ANY votes for the top 25? That was us last week.

I hate to bring it up but we were one terrible penalty call from being 9-1 right now. Should never have been in the position to have that call have meaning but its true.

Sigh.

Yup, you just can't lose to Indiana.

Good example why you don't even schedule scrub arse power 5 teams like that. Schedule better and you don't have to worry about this.

We were missing Golden that game too, right? That's a tough loss for our pass rush

It's the Texas Tech game from 2010 all over again. That was honestly the last time I remember Mizzou losing a game they absolutely should have won against a team that should have been extremely overmatched. And, like the Tech game, it will probably cost them a BCS-ish bowl.

Well if we win the SECCG we will go to a power bowl, it just won't be a playoff one.

And that's just fine. We need to focus on just winning a damn conference title first. It's been 45 years since we finished 1st place in our conference. That's pretty sad..

One questionable PI call from being in complete control of our own destiny.

the Indiana loss was the kiss of death... but, even if MU wins that game, I'm not sure a team can get beat 34-0 (UGA) and make it either?

Who cares, it's ancient history. Win out and let the chips fall where they may. Whoever the SEC champ is should be in the playoffs. IMO.

Doesn't hurt me at all. I only care about winning the SEC.

I dunno. After we lost DGB I sort of expected an Indiana nut cup type of season.

8-2 far exceeded expectations, so the IU loss doesn't bother me much. We should have lost to SC too.

IMO, this is probably Pinkel's best coaching job ever. He took a team of career back-ups and has them playing with grit and tenacity - and they just win. For the most part they're fundamentally sound and once Pinks realized who they were, he's been coaching them to the team's strengths.

Winning the East would be a hell of an achievement for a team of spare parts.

So it's hard for me to be upset about something that was unthinkable a month ago.

This is not a playoff caliber team. I love my Tigers, but let's be realistic. They are a middle of the pack, barely in the top 25 kind of team this year. They could have a good game and beat just about any team, or they could have a bad game, and well... I guess that's what this thread is about.

Why? Because the offense has struggled? This team is very much like an LSU team that played for a national championship. This defense is great and so are the special teams normally.

It always looks different from the inside.

It just isn't a complete and consistent team. It's hard to put your finger on any one thing. Obviously the defense is very good and the offense is hit and miss. But there is more to it than that.

I'm pretty happy with the team at this point. There were times this year when I thought we would be lucky to break .500. Now we have a shot at the East and a decent chance to upset for the conference. If they pull that off I will reconsider my opinion.

I get what AuxArc is saying. We have a good team, but I don't think they're great. There are flaws, and the right team will expose those.

The indiana loss was a head-scratching aberration. We play that game 100 times, and win 99. We are better than that. But we have flaws. I think a strong power-running team can gash us. I think a well coached defense could make our lives miserable, as our play calling on offense is pretty basic. Alabama is certainly pulling for us to win out, as they believe they can shut us down easily and have a clear path to the natty.

We can play very well at times, we don't make a ton of mistakes (OL penalties notwithstanding) and our defense is good enough to keep us in just about any game we take on. But we don't play well consistently. If this years defense had last years offense, we'd be in the playoff. But I just don't think that overall we are as good as last year.
