Nobody knows yet what will happen with SC's defensive coaches. There is a lot of speculation going one way or another. I think what's obvious is:

Ward's ability as a DC has come into question.
His ability to make effective recruiting decisions has come into question.
We may have the opportunity hire one of the best DC's in the SEC in the past 20 years, and he's young, and he's hungry and he's recruited Alabama, LA, TX, GA and FL heavily for the past 15 years. Will Muschamp.

We had a good defense in '13, but many thought it should have been better considering all the talent AND experience we had, although we weren't experienced at LB. It was a good defense all things considered, but the DL's productivity dropped off from previous years. Then in '14 the fricking dumpster caught fire.

So, what if we make the defensive coaching changes and bring in Will Muschamp and his staff. His defenses at UF were great, better than SC's every year.

How will the recruits react to the departure of some of the defensive coaches, will all of them be replaced. I bet we keep Grady, but the others probably aren't safe. Even after the florida game, where they showed real progress, they have to really be consistent or really get better these next 3 games if they want to keep a job, IMO.

About those recruits, here's what I think happens.
(For any of the guys coming in, I would think that they might actually look at a new staff as an improvement, although those relationships they develop with their position/recruiting coaches is really key.)

Blackshear - wants to be a Gamecock, coaching change won't impact him.

Mark Fields - Coaching change won't impact him.

Sherrod Pittman - Coaching change won't impact him, he said so.

Wideman - Coaching change could impact him.

Sawyer - Coaching change could impact him, but less than Wideman or Sawyer, and he's a local guy, so we'll have help.

Lewis - Coaching change won't happen until after he signs, so it won't matter unless he flips earlier.

Key - will impact, most likely to flip, loves Ward.

Wilder - already thinking of flipping to L'ville

Whitlow - already thinking of flipping to UK, but he was pretty much an after thought when we had all these other DE commits.

Arnettte - He is Grady's guy, and I don't think Grady is on the chopping block.

Alexander - Nope, he's coming to SC.

Milton - is coming as a C, but Deke is his recruiter.

Jalen Henry - Botkin's guy, but we are his best offer.

So really, I think the only guys we stand a good chance of losing are Key, Wilder, Whitlow and possibly Sawyer. Also, maybe Lewis. That would be a HUGE hit to our DE group this cycle. Keeping Lewis, who is the most SEC ready, is really key for next year. However, if those guys leave and we get CeCe Jefferson and Byron Cowart, it might be a wash or an improvement, certainly not a step back. Add in Roquan Smith and things are looking awesome.
