I guess everything just kind of feels very anti-climatic right now. Jefferson, that is why you hear crickets. I think most of us are in shock about what happened. I think we all had fantasies of 3 running around, through, and over the remaining defenses on our schedule.

I was angry with Todd. I let that be known here.

But I was happy to have him back. When he returned that KO Saturday night I was on my knees yelling and cheering.....I couldn't help it. I looked at my wife who was sitting on the couch laughing at my reaction and said "That kid is the best I've ever seen in my lifetime." And I meant that.

So I guess the question I pose is to our older members....Is this kind of how it felt when Herschel left? I was 6 in '82 so while I remember him, I didn't grasp everything I guess from the emotional aspect of him leaving.

He's the closest running back I've seen from a talent stand point and from a leadership stand point he's better from everything I've seen and read autograph scandal aside.

The shock was much worse with Herschel. The days of leaving early for the NFL were not there yet. Herschel did not want to leave early to become a pro. He had big dreams of being in the Olympics and you had to be an amateur back then. He made the mistake of signing something with an agent and it forced his hand. Then the USFL came with the money and he was gone. It was real disbelief for the fans as it was unprecedented.

Natty in his freshman year (should have been a Heisman, but back then no freshmen or sophomores were really considered).

Should have been Natty in his sophomore year, but we ran into someone named Dan Marino in the Sugarbowl and he picked us apart (and again, should have been Heisman, though close race).

Should have been Natty in his junior year, but ugly Penn State got us in Sugar. (finally Heisman).

So we are all pumped for the senior year, natty, another Heisman, and then BOOM

Edit: He finally did get in the Olympics later on the bobsled team, but not in his prime in track like he dreamed.

At least now, when we have a great player come along, we know in advance that we will get 3 years at best.

I wasn't angry with Todd when the autograph thing happened, but I was a little disappointed. Mainly, I was angry that there was such a stupid rule in existence.

One reason that I haven't spoke much on the Gurley injury is that to dwell on it too much would make me very sad. Not just for myself and for my team, but for Todd. He has given a lot to the University and to the fans of it's football program. I know we all wished his first game back would be one for the ages and to see it end like that is both shocking and painful.

One big reason I decided to attend the Tech game in a couple of weeks, even though I don't have a lot of spare time, is because I have not been to Athens for a game in several years; I decided that it was important for me to see the best football player we've had in my lifetime just once in person before he left for the NFL. I'm sad that I won't get that chance now.

Agree with all that except we wouldn't have won the MNC even if we didn't blow the Pitt game. Clemson was playing Nebraska at the same time and won to finish unbeaten. And....they beat us 13-3 that year.

True. I try to block that out. Bad enough losing to Todd B.
