That would be awful if they shut down that program. Think of the literally hundreds of fans who would lose something they cherish so much.

Saban finally gets over on UAB. I think we all knew this day would come.

at first it would suck for the players and a few hardcore fans.

But after a while it will come out as making the most sense.

Just putting the information out there about when there would be a resolution. A thread earlier in the month was started off a rumor. This article indicates it will be answered one way or another shortly after the last game of the season.

Abbreviated version is the report is being expedited after concerns of the coach and alumni.

Won't happen. Even if they announce it it won't go through. Birmingham won't let it

Seriously though... What is Alabama fans problem with UAB athletics? Are you just blindly agreeing with whatever UA says or do you have an actual gripe?

I am not sure how much of this you can take at face value, but the article states the animosity is due to Bryant Jr. and Gene Bartow.

This is the last year on the board for Jr. Apparently, Gene Bartow wrote a letter accusing Bama of cheating in basketball and went on to say in football, all the cheating coaches were disciples of Bear Bryant.

I do not know if this is that personal or not. To me, it seems pretty petty to punish a program for something a now deceased basketball coach wrote years ago.

That would explain Bear Jr but not the average Bama fan

Meh, I do not think most Alabama fans care that much.

The ones that post on here feel the need to defend anything UA related.

If you consider the writing in the UA student newspaper, the actual students are more sympathetic to UAB regarding the matter.

I hope UAB gets to keep their football program.

No particular reason.

Please kill it. It's an embarrassment and a waste of time, money and resources. It's a failed experiment. While we're at it, pull the plug on that entire toxic wasteland of a city too. The world wouldn't miss Birmingham.

This.

I'll play the devil's advocate for a moment and say that every accusation about Bryant Jr. on this subject is the absolute truth.

Do I give a shite? No. Am I going to lose 2 minutes of sleep over it? No. Am I gonna stop being a Bama fan? No. The few UAB fans, along with some Auburn fans, can pontificate all day long about it, but at the end of the day, are Alabama fans gonna care about it? No. Even if I agreed that Bryant Jr was a lying, deceitful, lowlife scum for trying to end UAB football, at the end of the day does it affect how I or any other Bama grad or fan feel about Alabama football, or the university? Hell no. Actually, it's pretty damn comical to watch Auburn fans...especially from South Florida ...get so worked up about it.

Even if every Alabama fan on the board agrees with the worst accusations about Bryant Jr and the BOT...so what? Even if we did care, we have no control over it.

Saying you do not care is much better (and more honest) than many who blindly defend it. At the end of the day, it is what it is. I just think it is a shame this happens when UAB is actually improving.

Heck, they may end having put more points on Miss State than other school in the state of Alabama.
