...am I going to die? My meeting is at a federal building downtown the following day so I wanted to be kind of close but didn't really think about the ramifications of any issues with downtown Jackson, if there even are any.

Should I move hotels? It's a national chain and the pictures looked purty.

Ok you are fine. The king edward hotel is probably the nicest downtown, but it is a fancy hotel. Wherever you are staying, I'm sure it is fine. Downtown jackson is not that dangerous. You will be fine. Enjoy you're stay and may I recommend 2 good downtown restaurants.

As long as you have a gun and the hotel has fenced in parking with security you should be fine.

Don't stop at gas stations unless they're right off the interstate or on the ridgeland side or your chances of getting carjacked go way up

All I hear is how dangerous jackson is but I've lived here for 20+ years and never seen a single crime in person.. There all over the news but never 1 in person

Doesn't happen if you don't see it in person.

So your probably staying in the Marrott then? You'll be fine during the day. I wouldn't be walking around downtown after dark though.

Eventually, but probably not due to violence while you're staying in Jackson. I assume you're staying at the Marriott or the King Edward. You'll be fine at either place. There isn't much going on downtown at night anyway, unless you're really into potholes and unfinished road resurfacing.

Downtown Jackson isn't that bad. Stay away from South and West Jackson though. West Jackson was once labeled the crack capital of the world.

King Ed (Hilton garden) is nice if that's where you're staying. You'll be fine. You can walk a block to Parlor Market for drinks if you want. There's also a bar in the hotel. You could also go to underground 119 but I'd drive or cab it because it is a little further.

I try to only speak positive Mississippi and positive Jackson, but here are some facts:

I lived in Jackson for 5 years (Fondren).

I worked in downtown Jackson for 3 of those 5 years.

I still do business in downtown Jackson quite a bit.

I stay at the Hyatt Place in Ridgeland when I have to stay overnight, and recommend the same to everyone who asks.

Take this for what it's worth.
