With Coates and Duke most likely gone next year who do you see being a big time receiving threat for Johnson?

Ricardo, Melvin Ray and Tony Stevens ( ) will likely be outside receivers

Slot will be Marcus Davis and Stanton Truitt, both of whom can move outside if needed

Why the ?

I think our WR core next year will be solid... Could lack the explosiveness of 2014, but JJ can make up for most of that with his accuracy.

Sammie should come back next year. Overall, this season has been disappointing for him. If he comes back, the hype won't be nearly as big, and he can focus.

More that on that list is 3 top 150 recruits and none of them are elite.

I'm just curious why it's a foregone conclusion that both Sammie and Duke are gone after this year.

Who are the other receivers entering the draft this year versus next year?

It's amazing how people can see what they want to see despite all evidence to the contrary.

Like what? Evidence is we will have a solid WR core. Melvin Ray is a beast who makes big plays every chance he gets. Davis is reliable in the slot. Louis has stone hands but is dynamic with the ball. Denson is at the very least a solid blocker (so is Ray and those two in the outside will help a ton in the run game)

We will be very inexperienced but everybody we have has potential.

Please point me to all the evidence... just bc the guys behind the starters are unproven doesn't mean they're gonna suck.

Louis, Davis, and Ray have caught TDs this year... But their roles are diminished bc of Duke and Coates being NMs main targets. Tuitt has a bright future in the slot.

Those statements don't jive.

Ray- Has made some big plays. Will probably be JJ's target but I would call him a slightly above average WR.

Davis-This guy is a stud. Catches everything. I really like him.

Louis- Stone Hands. I would not call him dynamic with the ball. He has speed but that's it. Can't make a guy miss to save his life.

Denson-Very solid blocker. Haven't seen him do much else.

Stevens-Haven't seen much out of him.

Truitt-Hear good things but he's been hurt all year.

Let's not count our chickens before they hatch. 2 of them aren't even committed yet.

Coates needs to stay. he hasnt had a good enough year to leave early. Duke is a major talent, but this injury puts some questions on him. Given that JJ is an incredible passer, he could go off the charts next year.

My concerns are the OL and the defense.

Coates if he stays
Louis
Ray
Truitt

I remember Burton getting a lot of praise, and hopefully Tony Stevens can step up. Hard to get catches with Duke,Quan, and Sammie around.

Don't want to derail the this thread too much, but why the defense? If anything we should be better with Lawson back and the guys in EJ's system another year. Besides Whitehead, what key contributors will we be losing?

Just basically our entire Dline.

Our defense is already bad though. So even if we returned all 11 starters, I would still be concerned.

Not so sure about that...

BUT...we still have...

Melvin Ray
Marcus Davis
Tony Stevens...who I think will be a STAR. Heard it here first
Dominic Walker
Stanton Truitt
Jaylon Denson
Myron Burton
I think Jason Smith & Kerryon Johnson will both be WRs
And hopefully Christian Kirk and John Burt

Carl Lawson DL SO
Raashed Kennion DL FR
DaVonte Lambert DL JR

Keymiya Harrell DL JR
Alec Brown DL RS FR
Elijah Daniel DL SO
Devaroe LawrenceDL SO
Gimel President DL SO
Gabe Wright DL SR
LaDarius Owens DL SR

Dontavius RussellDL FR
Aaron Garrison DL RS FR
Montravius AdamsDT SO
Ben Bradley DT SR

Gabe Wright followed by Blackson are probably the worst losses. It seems that people generally think Whitaker hasn't lived up to his billing.

Adams will be back and several others who have been getting significant snaps.

Those who follow recruiting closely, who are the players that based on their talent, rankings, etc. should be difference makers?

In order of talent level:

Lawson, Adams, Lambert. Are all pretty good.

Kennion is a pass rusher that needs some weight. Dontavius Russell has apparently been really good in practice. Elijah Daniel hasn't really lived up to the hype. Andrew Williams is supposed to be really good. Haven't heard much from him. Not sure if he redshirted. Thornton also needs a lot of weight.

Black son and Bradley are our biggest losses . As much fanfare the Cheeto Cod king gets Wright has not done well in his tweener role

We will be able to replace the role Wright replaces more easily than the dominance of Black son vs Run and Bradleys provided depth
