Who is your best pass rusher? It seems like to me McKinzy is the best at pressure from when I watch yall play. I know yall miss Lawson and Corey Lemonade

Also does Holsey start? If not that kid is the best DB yall have.

Lastly, your struggling defense, is it Ellis Johnson's fault or a talent thing or position coach thing?

Adams is the best pass rusher.

I can't figure out who starts. We play a lot of guys.

I think it's an Ellis thing. It's the same fricking plays killing us each game. It's one thing to have guys consistently make bad plays against teams (see Auburn 2012) but it's another to have guys consistently make bad plays against the same play with multiple teams.

Supposedly Johnson has simplified the defense and the DB's still don't understand the coverages, so it would seem that they're dumb. Also, we don't have a good pass rusher without Lawson.

How many sacks does he have this season? I knew he was good, but not the best on your team as a pass rusher. I just thought he was your best all around DL.

I think it is an Ellis Johnson thing and a talent thing. Mixture

Jones and Mincy are just horrible. I know they have had some INTs and good plays but as an every down SEC corner they are awful. Therezie is a play maker but he gets burnt too. Holsey and the Moncrief kid are your best DBs. The Ford kid isn't good either

1. Adams and Lambert get after the QB.

2. Holsey has started some games, but I hesitate to rate any of our DBs as the "best"

3. Talent at defensive end, linebacker and defensive back. Other than that we are stacked. The coaching is ok, the execution is not where it needs to be on a consistent basis.

Our secondary is inconsistent. They look like world beaters one second, then a JV team the next. But im sure you knew that

Has he got burnt this season? Because ive seen Mincy, Jones, and ford get abused

So the part that matters lol. Yeah might need to fix that. Biggest downside to Alabama's defense is that Saban starts Cyrus Jones because he is good against finesse receivers. Against anyone physical, he gets raped. Next season I think he will play star like Arenas. Jackson, Brown, and Humphrey will probably start.

Ive seen them capitalize on others mistakes (Dylan Thompson) but I wouldn't call them world beaters at times lol. They look like they play not to get beat deep, so they play off the line 20 yards. Is that by coaching instruction?

Jones is our best cover guy, but he is known to get a PI. Our safeties (except for Whitehead) all suck in coverage. We actually play close to the line more than our fans would like to admit. We played off more than usual against aTm. Probably because they use 4 and 5 receivers so often. aTm was pretty basic with their routes. CB's off the ball... run slants. CB's pressing... go vertical.

Lambert and Frost are probably our best pass rushers.

Holsey used to be easily our best DB but he hasn't been the same since his ACL tear. Jones is now our best cover guy

It is more complicated than most make it out to be.

We lack a decent/elite pass rusher. Most teams inside the top 25 have one or two. Nobody on our d-line requires a double team.

It causes some of our second tier guys and developing guys who in a normal defensive scheme would be blocked one on one to be doubled. They would get more pressure from time to time if they only had to beat one guy but the lack of a decent/elite pass rusher means the double teams move inside.

This sets in motion the need to blitz. When you blitz you hope most of the time it isn't picked up, but without a double team there is generally at least one guy to pick it up. Our LB's do some things well, but blitzing isn't one of them.

The need to blitz requires man to man. Our DB's are all decent SEC caliber DB's but none are shut down and none have the size to play man coverage every down. They would all benefit from the ability to play more zone.

Coaching can be blamed. Scheme can be blamed, but in the end any defense that can't create a pass rush in this era of football is going to struggle. It is made worse if you don't have at least one NFL caliber CB.

Lawson's injury removed the guy who would have required a double team. Poor recruiting for this need is the real culprit. It is why stars don't always matter if those stars aren't filling a specific need.

Moncrief

is definitely not one of our best DBs. Takes terrible angles and struggles in coverage.

Mincy for first half of season was our best corner but has fallen apart recently.
Jones sucked the beginning of year but has actually done better at CB recently.
Therezie struggles in one on one coverage but is a runs stuffer
Ford probably has best upside of the group. He gets out of position but has ridiculous closing speed and is sure tackler

Whitehead when he is in there is our best DB but has missed a lot of the season. The main issue is miscommunication in secondary. Safeties are taking guys they shouldn't and leaving guys wide open in the middle of the field. Between that and out weak pass rush it's causing us to blitz a crap ton which opens us up to more big plays.

Overall we just don't have the horses on that side of the ball to play good pass defense. Our run D is actually not bad but we don't have any pass rushers and no lockdown corners to slow down passing teams. A&M was probably the absolute worst matchup for us and it showed

Who is the coach that is responsible for teaching tackling? The last few games it looks like the players want no part of it.

I'm trying not to melt.

Our defense is porous. If I could fix it, Gus would have got me paid about 650,000.

Pass defense has looked bad the past three weeks. Before that we looked great. Go figure.

We need to make a coaching change in our secondary

You guys would have an elite pass rusher if your staff would have recruited Evans right.
