I genuinely like that emoticon... for having come from a pansy-arse kid.

I'll have to see if I can dig up some my pics from bonfire. I remember the nights on stack and things just seemed right with everything as we worked logs in and wired them in place. Great times. I miss them dearly.

I hear ya. I completely wasted my senior fall semester for bonfire, and don't regret it a bit (at least not NOW that I graduated.) Hometown buddy and I, who were both actually pretty good students, decided we were building that sumbitch. And we did at the expense of a completely wasted semester, pretty much 24/7. I loved sitting in a swing 40' off the ground tying in logs with the November rain drizzling and the wind blowing, smoking a cigar and occasionally sipping on my bottle of Southern Comfort.

I've lived a good life, but nothing has come close to those days.

They were doing it wrong. They should have spent that time blowing stuff up.

Or hey, studying.

Strangely, they seemed to spend about half of their time in my dorm studying and about half sleeping. Apparently, they were not able to do much of either in the Corps dorm.

USAF are the brainiacs of the military (admittedly, that ain't sayin' much ). We usually got shite from the other outfits in the dorms for placing such an emphasis on CQ. It was almost a bit of an ostracization scenario if you were a Tbird and not in O.R. Simpson.

I was not

I don't know what to tell you. The spectacle I would guess is about the same as the old days and it should be a good time. But back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, the fire department height limit for decades was 58 feet but nobody paid attention to that; it was always the senior class's number. 79 feet my senior year, for example. Now I think it is 40'ish. A 40' bonfire is still pretty damn impressive, though. (I have no idea whether the planned height in '99 was 99 feet - I sorta doubt it.)

The main difference to me is the level of involvement from students in building that bastard, but on the night of the burn visitors will have no clue about that. To anybody who got into it before '99 the building was the important part, and with the stack being easy walking distance from your dorm, a lot of us spent too much time out there. But that's just me being an old curmudgeon. I'm sure they put on a good show and it is a worthwhile trip for you. I'd like to see it someday. BTHO LSU.
