Well we finally got some good bonfire weather. Was beginning to wonder if it was gonna happen in time this year. Makes me miss cut and stack.

I assume there's no threat of a burn ban this year right? It seems like it's rained a lot but I haven't kept up with that

Did anybody ever go to student bonfire? the only person I've ever met who did was involved with it my freshman year

Yes. My parents' old house of hwy 6 was literally like a mile or two (maybe less) from the burn site Also had a roommate who was very involved w/ cut and stack.
Went to on campus bonfire as a kid, though.

Did it ever draw a huge crowd?

The year I went (can't remember if it was 2008 or 2009), I remember there a nice crowd out there. It had just rained the days before so parking was a mess and cars were left for dead that night in the muddy fields. It was pretty nice and I tried going back the years after. But unfortunately we had fire bans each year in November until I graduated.

Pretty good size from what I could tell.
Nothing comparable to the on campus version, of course, but quite a contingent nonetheless. I'm of the mindset that it'll grow as the years pass.

I was at the last one that burned on campus in 98. I was also woken up in my dorm room in Schumacher (when it was dudes only) when stack fell in 99.

I was at the one in '98. Just happen to go up there with my uncle. I was 11. Lucky me I got to see one before it went away from campus & A&M.
Kind of strange, but I always slept with my tv on at night. The morning of the collapse I just happened to wake up at like 4 or 5 am when news in Houston started covering it on TV and mt TV just happen to be on a channel covering it. I couldn't believe it was real.

I went as a youngin, can't recall if it was twice or three times, but it's a memory i'll certainly never forget.

Heh. Non-regs have no clue.
A time-honored tradition in the Corps was for freshmen to tackle the first sergeant, strip him naked, and haul his clothing to the top of (this is the important part, for any '81 pussies that happen to read this) the biggest tree they thought they could carry out. First sergeant then retrieved his clothing by chopping the tree down while all the other homos (depending on who you ask) sat on their arse listening to good bull stories from a sophomore.
I obviously wished I had sharpened my axe before this photo - I ended up borrowing another sharper axe to finish the job. And hell no, they couldn't carry that tree out. It took the entire company. No, I don't hold a grudge at all .
Jesus I miss those days.

Nice legs, FF.
I worked cut as part of my dorm during freshman year. Moved off campus after that. Cut was lots more fun as part of a pre-existing group.
That was one of the few things I envied about you CTs.

There were plenty more, you're just ignorant of all the momentous stupendous only-in-the-Corps moments that you missed, like cokebottleag's dad dressing up as a cold cut sandwich for Halloween, for example. That's one I'll never forget, no matter how hard I try.

He and all of his fish buddies spent the entire year hiding from upperclassman in my dorm room.

They were doing it wrong. They should have spent that time blowing stuff up.
Or hey, studying. Which the Corps did a good job of enforcing back in the day. I can't speak for AF pukes like TBird, but the Corps ensured I made it through CE.
I didn't mean to pick on non-regs (too much). It took 4 years, but I ended up respecting many, strangely enough. I mostly was looking to pick on WhiskyCroissantKiller.
